Why do we love this wine?

When I first tried this wine, it was love at first sip. I'll admit, sometimes Aussie sangiovese is just lacking that certain something, but this beauty delivers the whole package. Brightly perfumed and endlessly majestic, I guarantee you'll be enchanted from the aroma alone. With plush tannins giving this wine presence, the pristine fruit characters of red cherry, slate, blueberry, and spice carry long and pronounced on the finish. This single vineyard superstar is worth a prized spot on the wine shelf, that is if you don't drink it all on arrival.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

This single vineyard Sangiovese breaks the mould of many Australian interpretations by delivering authentic Italian varietal character with a distinctly Australian terroir expression. The Adelaide Hills' cool climate and elevation allow the grapes to retain natural acidity while developing complex flavours, resulting in the pristine red cherry and slate minerality that defines great Sangiovese. The combination of bright perfume and plush tannins shows how Australian winemakers are mastering this traditionally Tuscan variety.

Serve this wine at 16-18°C to showcase its aromatic complexity and textural depth. The savoury, textured profile with notes of thyme and slate makes it exceptional with herb-crusted lamb, aged cheeses, or rustic Italian dishes like osso buco. The wine's natural acidity and tannin structure will cut through rich, fatty foods while the fruit intensity complements grilled meats and tomato-based sauces beautifully.

The 96 points from Winestate Magazine and multiple gold medals across prestigious Australian wine shows demonstrate exceptional winemaking consistency and quality. These accolades, particularly the trophy at Adelaide Hills Wine Show, indicate this Sangiovese stands out even among the region's finest wines. Such recognition from both critics and industry peers suggests this wine represents outstanding value and cellaring potential for serious collectors.

With its full-bodied structure, plush tannins, and balanced acidity, this 2021 Sangiovese has excellent ageing potential of 8-12 years from vintage. The wine is drinking beautifully now, showing vibrant fruit and aromatic intensity, but will develop greater complexity and integration with 2-3 years of careful cellaring. Store in a cool, dark place at consistent temperature to allow the tannins to soften and the savoury elements to emerge more prominently.

This Sangiovese is crafted without using animal-derived fining agents like egg whites, isinglass, or gelatin, which are traditionally used to clarify wines. Instead, the winemaker likely employed plant-based or mineral fining agents, or allowed natural settling processes to achieve clarity. This approach often results in wines with more textural complexity and authentic varietal expression, aligning with the wine's emphasis on pristine fruit character and natural winemaking philosophy.
