When a Tasmanian winery *chooses* to make pinot noir from the Hills, you know they've got their hands on some good fruit. This absolutely leaps out of the glass, right at you! Red berries and strawberries, silky subtle tannins and that little bit of earthiness that the Hills is known for. Yummers.

Why do we love this wine?

If you talk to a winemaker, every vintage is "hard going" or "challenging". If you talk to the sales and marketing manager of a winery, every vintage is "perfect" or "amazing". It's a rare and special year on which the two can agree. 2024, as it turns out, is a rare and special year for the Adelaide Hills. This wine shows the great concentration of fruit and underlying, dare we say it, Burgundy-esque earthiness that the Hills can impart in those great years. A wine that you're actually meant to enjoy drinking - we have been.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 2024 vintage is considered exceptional because it's one of those rare years where both winemakers and sales teams agree on quality - a phenomenon that speaks to truly outstanding growing conditions. The Adelaide Hills experienced ideal weather patterns that allowed for concentrated fruit development while maintaining the region's signature cool-climate elegance. This convergence of perfect conditions resulted in wines with both power and finesse, showcasing the terroir's ability to produce Burgundy-style complexity.

This Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir exhibits the coveted 'Burgundy-esque earthiness' that serious wine lovers seek in premium Pinot Noir. The cool climate and elevated vineyards of the Adelaide Hills create similar conditions to Burgundy's Cote d'Or, allowing for slow ripening and complex flavour development. While maintaining its distinctly Australian character with bright raspberry and floral notes, the wine demonstrates the mineral complexity and elegant structure that makes great Burgundy so revered worldwide.

The wine's medium body and elegant style make it incredibly food-friendly, particularly with dishes that complement its raspberry and rose petal characteristics. Think roasted duck with cherry sauce, mushroom risotto, or aged hard cheeses where the wine's earthy undertones can shine. The violet notes also pair beautifully with herb-crusted lamb or salmon, while the wine's balanced acidity cuts through richer preparations without overwhelming delicate flavours.

Russell & Suitor has earned recognition for their commitment to single-vineyard expressions that truly capture the essence of Adelaide Hills terroir. Their approach focuses on minimal intervention winemaking that allows the natural characteristics of their premium vineyard sites to shine through. The fact that this wine carries both 'Single Vineyard' and 'Mofo Fave' ratings demonstrates their ability to consistently produce wines that showcase both technical excellence and pure drinking pleasure.

Serve this Pinot Noir slightly below room temperature, around 14-16°C, to best showcase its delicate aromatics of rose petal and violets. The wine is designed for immediate enjoyment but can develop additional complexity over 3-5 years if stored properly in a cool, dark place. Decanting isn't necessary for this elegant style, but allowing it to breathe in the glass for 15-20 minutes will help the raspberry and earthy notes fully express themselves.
