Why do we love this wine?

Just when we thought Powell & Sons couldn’t impress us more, they raised the bar higher than it’s ever been before. This seems to good to be true, right? We’re pinching ourselves too: it’s not every day that you get the best sub-regions of the Barossa (Marananga playing a big part of that), with the fruit of each vineyard separately nurtured and carefully blended after 18 months ageing in French oak. The name says it all, but this isn’t just any blend: it’s the king of blends. All shiraz. All star fruit. All the best oak. All in one neat little parcel. If this doesn’t tickle your fancy, truly nothing will.

This meticulous approach creates layers of complexity that single-vineyard wines often can't achieve.

The 2021 vintage in Barossa was exceptional, earning recognition as a 'Killer Vintage' for good reason. This year delivered ideal growing conditions with balanced rainfall and warm, dry ripening periods that concentrated flavours while maintaining natural acidity. The result is a Shiraz with intense blood plum and allspice notes that perfectly complement the full-bodied structure, creating a wine that's both powerful and elegant.

The rich, full-bodied nature and allspice characteristics make this wine perfect for hearty dishes with bold flavours. Think slow-cooked lamb shanks with rosemary, grilled ribeye with peppercorn sauce, or even spiced Middle Eastern dishes like moroccan tagines. The blood plum notes also complement game meats beautifully, while the French oak aging adds enough sophistication to pair with premium aged cheeses.

While this Shiraz is drinking beautifully now, its full-bodied structure and quality French oak treatment suggest excellent cellaring potential of 8-12 years.
