Why do we love this wine?

Sourced from Pirramimma’s old cabernet vineyards in McLaren Vale, luscious blackberry, blueberry, mint and capsicum notes hum alongside cedar and toasted almond notes from time in oak. Secondary characters of black olive, tobacco and rosemary are starting to poke through as well. No need to rush though as this has another decade plus of development left in the bottle. For now or for the future, the choice is yours.

This is a gorgeous rendition of the variety, showing cassis, rich floral, subtle tobacco and spicy oak characters on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate offering richness with refined texture and layers of fine tannins. Wonderfully structured and harmonious with a great line and length. At its best: now to 2041 | $50.00.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Heritage Limited Edition comes from Pirramimma's oldest cabernet vineyards in McLaren Vale, which produce grapes with exceptional concentration and complexity. The old vines naturally yield smaller crops, resulting in more intense flavours and the distinctive secondary characters like black olive, tobacco and rosemary that are already emerging. The combination of heritage fruit and careful oak treatment creates a wine that showcases both immediate appeal and serious ageing potential.

While delicious now, this wine has over a decade of development ahead of it, making it excellent for medium to long-term cellaring. The tannin structure and acidity will allow the complex fruit and oak integration to evolve beautifully over 10-15 years. As it ages, expect the primary blackberry and blueberry notes to develop into more savoury, earthy characteristics while the oak becomes more seamlessly integrated.

The wine's full body and savoury complexity make it perfect for rich, protein-heavy dishes like grilled lamb with rosemary, aged beef steaks, or slow-cooked osso buco. The emerging tobacco and black olive notes also complement Mediterranean flavours beautifully - think herb-crusted rack of lamb or beef bourguignon. The cedar and toasted almond characters from oak maturation will enhance dishes with similar nutty or smoky elements.

The exceptional rating reflects the wine's perfect balance of power and elegance, showcasing McLaren Vale's ability to produce world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. The complex layering of primary fruit, well-integrated oak, and emerging tertiary characters demonstrates exceptional winemaking skill. The combination of old vine intensity, regional terroir expression, and the wine's proven ageing potential creates a complete package that critics recognise as outstanding quality.

McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate provides warm, dry summers perfect for ripening Cabernet Sauvignon while retaining crucial acidity through cool sea breezes from the nearby Gulf St Vincent. The region's diverse soils, from red clay to sandy loam, contribute to the complex flavour profile you taste in this wine. The combination of consistent sunshine and maritime influence allows for the development of both ripe fruit characters and the savoury, herbal notes that make McLaren Vale Cabernet so distinctive.
