Geelong is, for me, the best pinot noir producing region outside of Burgundy. Not the USA's Oregon, not New Zealand's Central Otago - little old Geelong on Victoria's south coast.

Why do we love this wine?

Fresh and inviting, this will give a lot with just a little swirl in the glass. Raspberry coulis, winter strawberry, some sweet spice, fennel, thistle. The complexity far outpaces its price tag. The wine is structured without sacrificing finesse, which means it's pretty without being thin or wussy. This is dangerous value at this price and worth stocking up because we don't anticipate we'll be able to hang onto it too for long.

Frequently Asked Questions

Geelong's cool maritime climate and volcanic soils create ideal conditions for elegant Pinot Noir production. The region's proximity to Port Phillip Bay moderates temperatures, allowing for slow ripening that develops complex flavours while maintaining natural acidity. This terroir produces Pinots with distinctive mineral undertones and the ability to express both power and finesse, as demonstrated in this textured, savoury example.

Serve this wine slightly below room temperature at 14-16°C to highlight its raspberry and strawberry notes while preserving its structured elegance. Decant for 30 minutes or give it a good swirl in the glass to unlock the fennel and sweet spice complexity. The wine's medium body and textured profile make it versatile for both casual sipping and food pairing.

The wine's savoury, textured character and berry fruit profile make it excellent with duck breast, lamb with herbs, or mushroom risotto. Its structured yet finesse-driven style also complements salmon, roasted chicken with thyme, or aged hard cheeses. The fennel and spice notes add complexity that works beautifully with Mediterranean flavours and earthy dishes.

This Pinot Noir delivers complexity that typically costs significantly more, combining structured elegance with approachable fruit flavours. Coming from a Five Star Halliday rated winery and boutique producer, it represents serious winemaking credentials at an accessible price point. The wine's ability to offer both immediate drinking pleasure and underlying sophistication makes it a standout in today's competitive market.

While this wine is designed to be enjoyed young for its fresh raspberry and strawberry character, its structured backbone suggests 3-5 years of cellaring potential. The textured, savoury style indicates good tannin integration that will allow the wine to develop more complex earthy notes over time. However, given its immediate appeal and dangerous value pricing, it's equally rewarding to drink now.
