Why do we love this wine?

We can't believe we've managed to get our hands on this one! From two of the most premium blocks in this producer's extensive holdings, this delicious drops is loaded with ripe dark fruits and red berries. Nine months on lees in premium French oak has imparted incredible drive and structure, but the wine remains elegant and silky on the palate, perfectly supported by ripe tannins. W-O-W

Frequently Asked Questions

The light-bodied nature comes from Pinot Noir's inherently delicate grape structure and the winemaker's restrained approach to oak maturation. Nine months on lees in French oak adds complexity and structure without overwhelming the wine's natural elegance. The premium French oak imparts subtle vanilla and spice notes while allowing the bright cherry and strawberry flavours to shine through, creating that perfect balance between power and finesse that defines great Yarra Valley Pinot Noir.

The Yarra Valley's cool climate and varied topography create perfect conditions for Pinot Noir's notoriously finicky nature. The region's morning fogs and cool afternoon breezes extend the growing season, allowing grapes to develop complex flavours while retaining natural acidity. This climate produces the cherry and strawberry characteristics found in this wine, while the valley's diverse soils contribute to the white pepper spice notes that add complexity to the final blend.

Lees contact during the nine-month oak maturation creates a richer mouthfeel and adds subtle complexity to the wine's texture. The dead yeast cells release proteins and compounds that soften tannins and create that silky palate mentioned in the tasting notes. This process also contributes to the wine's structure and drive, allowing it to maintain elegance while developing the depth expected from premium vineyard blocks.

The bright cherry and strawberry flavours paired with white pepper spice make this wine incredibly food-friendly. Duck breast with cherry sauce would echo the fruit characteristics, while the white pepper notes complement game birds like quail or pigeon. The wine's light body and silky tannins also pair beautifully with mushroom risotto or herb-crusted lamb, where the earthy elements won't overpower the wine's elegant structure.

This 2024 Pinot Noir demonstrates exceptional winemaking that allows for early enjoyment while maintaining ageing potential. The combination of premium vineyard blocks, careful oak integration, and extended lees contact has created a wine with immediate appeal and silky tannins. While many Pinot Noirs benefit from cellaring, the ripe fruit character and balanced structure mean this wine offers beautiful drinking now, though it will continue to develop complexity over the next 5-7 years.
