Geelong is, for me, the best pinot noir producing region outside of Burgundy. Not the USA's Oregon, not New Zealand's Central Otago - little old Geelong on Victoria's south coast.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Fresh and inviting, this will give a lot with just a little swirl in the glass. Raspberry coulis, winter strawberry, some sweet spice, fennel, thistle. The complexity far outpaces its price tag. The wine is structured without sacrificing finesse, which means it's pretty without being thin or wussy. This is dangerous value at under $20 and worth stocking up because we don't anticipate we'll be able to hang onto it too for long.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine delivers complexity that typically costs much more, showcasing the hallmarks of quality Pinot Noir - delicate structure, finesse, and layered aromatics - without the premium price tag. The Geelong region's cool climate allows for extended ripening, developing those beautiful raspberry and strawberry notes while maintaining the variety's signature elegance. It's a perfect example of how Australian Pinot Noir can compete with more expensive international examples.

Serve slightly chilled at 14-16°C to highlight its fresh fruit character and delicate structure. Give it a gentle swirl in the glass to release those inviting aromas of raspberry coulis and sweet spice. The wine's finesse means it pairs beautifully with lighter dishes like roasted chicken, salmon, or mushroom risotto, where it won't overpower the food but will complement the flavours perfectly.

Geelong's maritime climate, influenced by Port Phillip Bay, creates ideal conditions for Pinot Noir with its cool temperatures and consistent breezes. This climate allows grapes to ripen slowly while retaining natural acidity, resulting in wines with both intensity and elegance. The region's volcanic soils add mineral complexity, which likely contributes to the wine's structured backbone that supports those beautiful fruit and spice notes.

The term reflects how rarely you find this level of complexity and finesse at such an accessible price point. Quality Pinot Noir typically commands premium prices due to the grape's finicky nature and the skill required to craft it well. When a wine delivers restaurant-quality character for under $20, it represents exceptional value that savvy wine lovers recognise and stock up on before word spreads and availability becomes limited.

The wine's raspberry coulis and sweet spice profile makes it incredibly food-friendly, particularly with dishes that echo these flavours. Try it with duck breast with cherry sauce, pork tenderloin with fennel, or even salmon with a berry reduction. The light body and elegant structure also make it perfect for cheese platters featuring soft-ripened varieties like brie or camembert, where the wine's acidity cuts through richness while complementing creamy textures.
