Pinot noir is a beast unto itself. Beguiling, curious, intricate, dually fragile and powerful, and capable of delivering a drinking experience like no other. It is, without a doubt, one of the best things you could possibly to drink. This one'll show you why...

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Freshly floral and red fruited, this veers away from the classic light body of its French cousins and delivers a fuller (we'll call it medium, to be technically correct), richer drinking experience. There is delightful nettle and twiggy-ness from a bit of whole bunch work, and classic sweet spice from well deployed, spare-no-expense oak. Cherries, liquorice, plum, aniseed, earth, Turkish delight... there's really no end to what's discoverable, and lucky for us, we stocked up, so we can go on discovering after this bottle is done.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tasmania's cool maritime climate and unique terroir produce Pinot Noirs with a distinctly fuller body compared to their Burgundian counterparts. While French Pinot Noir tends towards ethereal lightness, this Tasmanian expression delivers medium-bodied richness with concentrated red fruit flavours. The island's pristine environment and longer ripening season allow for more intense flavour development while maintaining the grape's characteristic elegance.

Whole bunch fermentation involves including grape stems during the winemaking process, rather than removing them entirely. This technique adds structural complexity, contributing the 'nettle and twiggy-ness' mentioned in this wine's profile. The stems provide natural tannins and herbaceous notes that create textural interest and enhance the wine's savoury character, balancing the sweet red fruit flavours.

Serve this Tasmanian Pinot Noir slightly chilled at 14-16°C to highlight its fresh floral aromatics and red fruit character. The medium body and complex flavour profile make it versatile for food pairing - try it with duck, salmon, mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses. Decanting for 30 minutes will help open up the intricate layers of cherries, spice, and earthy undertones.

Tasmania's cool climate, clean air, and maritime influence create perfect conditions for Pinot Noir cultivation. The island's latitude provides long, slow ripening seasons that preserve acidity while developing complex flavours. The diverse soil types and elevation variations allow winemakers to craft distinctive expressions, while the isolation ensures pristine fruit quality free from many mainland viticultural challenges.

This well-structured Tasmanian Pinot Noir shows excellent aging potential due to its quality oak integration and balanced acidity. While delicious now, it will continue evolving over the next 5-8 years, developing more complex earthy and savoury notes. The wine's medium body and careful winemaking suggest it will gracefully transition from its current fresh fruit character to more nuanced tertiary flavours with proper cellaring.
