Here's a wine that shows us why the Upper-Yarra Valley is, undoubtedly, one of the best places to grow pinot noir in Australia. Bright red fruit, savoury earthiness, silky tannins and a vibrant natural acid line work in tandem to create a harmonious, expressive, and seriously classy drop.

Why do we love this wine?

Whatever type of pinot drinker you are, you'll find something in this wine. From the casual sipper, to the professional pinot purists, there's plenty of joy to go round. As with all good pinots, the nose is earthy and alluring: red cherry, strawberry, violet and potpourri, layered with hints of forest floor, mushroom, thyme and spice, promising concentration and complexity. The palate delivers on that promise. Ripe red berries are held together by a velvety tannic frame, with savoury notes of dried herbs and cedar weaving in beautifully. The tannins are seamless, the acidity fresh, and the overall structure refined. Everything is in balance. It’s drinking beautifully now, but there’s no rush. This one’s got a long, graceful road ahead, comfortably cruising through to 2035.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Yarra Valley's cool climate and diverse soils create ideal conditions for Pinot Noir, producing wines with exceptional complexity and longevity. This wine showcases the region's signature style with its earthy forest floor notes and seamless tannin integration, characteristics that distinguish Yarra Valley Pinots from warmer climate expressions. The 95-point Wine Orbit rating reflects the region's reputation for producing some of Australia's finest Pinot Noir.

While this Pinot Noir is drinking beautifully now with its balanced structure and refined tannins, it has excellent cellaring potential through to 2035. The wine's concentrated fruit, savoury complexity, and fresh acidity provide the foundation for graceful ageing. During cellaring, expect the primary red berry flavours to evolve into more complex tertiary notes while the earthy, mushroom characteristics become more pronounced.

The wine's medium body and savoury profile make it incredibly food-friendly, particularly with dishes that complement its earthy, herbal notes. Think roasted duck with cherry sauce, mushroom risotto, or aged hard cheeses that echo the wine's forest floor characteristics. The seamless tannins and fresh acidity also make it excellent with salmon or other meaty fish preparations.

This wine strikes the perfect balance between approachability and complexity that defines great Pinot Noir. Casual drinkers will appreciate the immediate charm of ripe red berries and smooth texture, while purists will find the layered aromatics, terroir expression, and structural integrity they seek. The seamless integration of fruit, earth, and spice elements demonstrates the winemaking skill that earned it recognition as an 'Iconic Winery' product.

These floral aromatics are hallmarks of high-quality Pinot Noir and indicate both varietal authenticity and careful winemaking. Violet notes often emerge from cool-climate fruit with optimal ripeness, while potpourri suggests the wine has developed complex secondary aromatics. These delicate floral elements, combined with the earthy forest floor notes, create the aromatic complexity that Wine Orbit recognised with their five-star rating.
