Why do we love this wine?

Just 15 minutes from Devonport and close to Tassie's iconic Cradle Mountain is this charming Tassie winery, and from the sandy soil slopes behind it comes this jaw-dropping pinot noir. Bursting with cherries, yet charismatically complex, it's the love child of organic project that took off in 2019 and given how good this drop is, you can see why the winemakers haven't looked back. Pair with a roast duck, some Tassie salmon or a friend that loves pinot as much as you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tasmania's cool climate and unique terroir create Pinot Noirs with exceptional elegance and finesse. The island's sandy soils and proximity to the Southern Ocean provide ideal conditions for this temperamental grape, resulting in wines with bright acidity, complex cherry flavours, and that distinctive Tasmanian minerality. This particular wine showcases these regional characteristics beautifully, with its charismatic complexity despite being light-bodied.

Organic viticulture allows the true terroir to shine through by avoiding synthetic chemicals that can mask natural flavours. This wine's organic approach, started in 2019, contributes to its authentic expression of Tasmanian sandy soils and creates more nuanced, earthy undertones alongside the vibrant cherry fruit. The result is a more honest representation of place, with cleaner, more defined flavours that reflect the vineyard's natural ecosystem.

The 2023 vintage represents the maturation of this organic project that began in 2019, giving the vines time to establish themselves in chemical-free soils. Young Pinot Noir vines often produce their best fruit after a few years of organic practices, as the soil biology develops complexity. This vintage captures both the freshness of relatively young vines and the depth that comes from established organic farming methods.

Light-bodied Pinot Noirs like this one are incredibly food-friendly due to their elegant structure and bright acidity. The wine's earthy, cherry-driven profile complements rich proteins like roast duck or Tasmanian salmon without overwhelming delicate flavours. The key is matching the wine's intensity - its complexity can handle robust dishes, while its lightness won't overpower more subtle preparations.

Serve this wine slightly cooler than room temperature, around 14-16°C, to highlight its elegant structure and fresh cherry characteristics. Being a 2023 vintage, it's drinking beautifully now but can be cellared for 3-5 years to develop more complex earthy notes. Store it on its side in a cool, dark place, and decant for 30 minutes before serving to allow the organic wine's natural complexity to fully express itself.
