Why do we love this wine?

Tasmania has earned the head spot at the nation's pinot table for a reason. Bursting with achievements and brimming with a surprisingly vast array of mesoclimates, it plates up mouth-watering drops year after year that run the gamut from lighter to fuller-throttled. Matured in 30% new French oak for 11 months and perfectly perfumed while boasting a soft texture, it's a pinot that's as good as they get from the state where pinots are, well, as good as they get.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tasmania's cool climate and diverse mesoclimates create ideal conditions for Pinot Noir, allowing the grape to develop complex flavours while retaining natural acidity. The island's maritime influence provides consistent temperatures and extended ripening periods, resulting in more elegant and refined wines compared to warmer mainland regions. This 2023 vintage showcases these advantages with its perfect balance of fruit intensity and structural finesse.

The 11-month maturation in 30% new French oak adds subtle vanilla and spice notes while enhancing the wine's texture without overwhelming the delicate Pinot Noir fruit. French oak is prized for its tight grain and gentle tannin extraction, which complements rather than dominates the raspberry and strawberry flavours. The remaining 70% older oak allows the varietal character to shine through while adding complexity.

Serve this wine slightly chilled at 14-16°C to highlight its elegant fruit profile and soft texture. The lighter body makes it perfect for pairing with salmon, duck, mushroom dishes, or even charcuterie. Decanting isn't necessary for this style, but opening 30 minutes before serving allows the perfumed aromatics to fully develop and showcase the wine's Tasmanian terroir.

The 2023 vintage has been rated as a 'Killer Vintage' with 90 points, indicating exceptional growing conditions across Tasmania. Cool, consistent weather during the growing season allowed for optimal flavour development while maintaining the natural acidity that makes Tasmanian Pinot Noir so distinctive. This vintage represents the pinnacle of what Tasmania can achieve with this notoriously difficult grape variety.

Estate-grown wines like this one offer a pure expression of a single vineyard's terroir, showcasing the specific soil, aspect, and microclimate characteristics. Unlike regional blends that combine fruit from multiple sources, this wine provides an authentic taste of place with consistent winemaking philosophy. The estate control from vine to bottle ensures quality at every step and creates a more focused, terroir-driven wine experience.
