Why do we love this wine?

This incredible pinot from one of the region's top producers is dressed to impress. A focus on clarity and drive, only MV6 clone grapes were used from two of the most premium blocks in the vineyard's extensive holdings. After rockstar treatment in the winery, including nine months in 30% new oak, this drop is absolutely singing now, and will continue to develop beautifully over the next few years. Ripe, brambly red fruits, delightfully floral (roses and violets), elegant and wonderfully textured. This is the definition of premium Yarra.

Frequently Asked Questions

MV6 is one of the most prized Pinot Noir clones, originally selected from Burgundy's Domaine de la Romanee-Conti. This clone produces smaller berries with concentrated flavours and excellent colour intensity, making it ideal for premium expressions. The decision to use only MV6 grapes from the vineyard's best blocks demonstrates the producer's commitment to quality over quantity, resulting in the wine's exceptional clarity and drive that James Halliday recognised with 95 points.

The careful use of 30% new oak over nine months strikes an ideal balance for Pinot Noir, adding subtle vanilla and spice notes without overwhelming the delicate fruit character. New oak contributes tannin structure and allows controlled micro-oxygenation, which helps develop the wine's elegant texture and floral complexity. This restrained approach is typical of premium Yarra Valley producers who understand that Pinot Noir's ethereal qualities can be easily masked by excessive oak treatment.

The Yarra Valley has established itself as Australia's premier cool-climate region, producing Pinot Noirs that rival Burgundy in elegance and complexity. This wine exemplifies the region's signature style with its combination of ripe red fruit intensity, distinctive floral aromatics, and refined texture. The cool climate allows for extended ripening periods, developing the rose and violet notes that are hallmarks of exceptional Yarra Valley Pinot Noir, while maintaining the natural acidity that gives the wine its drive and ageing potential.

This wine's medium body and elegant structure make it incredibly food-friendly, particularly with dishes that won't overpower its delicate floral and berry characteristics. Classic pairings include roasted duck with cherry sauce, mushroom risotto, or aged hard cheeses where the wine's spice notes create beautiful harmony. The rose petal aromatics also work beautifully with herb-crusted lamb or salmon, while the wine's natural acidity cuts through richer preparations without losing its sophisticated character.

While already drinking beautifully now, this wine's premium pedigree and careful winemaking suggest excellent cellaring potential over the next 5-8 years. The current brambly fruit character will gradually evolve into more complex secondary flavours like forest floor and dried herbs, while the floral notes will integrate and become more nuanced. The 30% new oak will continue to marry with the fruit, and the wine's natural acidity will help preserve its elegance while allowing the development of silky, mature tannins that define aged Pinot Noir.
