Tassie pinot is hot, hot, hot, and while we all know Tassie is cold, it is this cooler climate that is perfect for the sometimes hard to master pinot noir. Think concentrated strawberries and raspberries wrapped in muddled plums and dried roses. Wow.

Why do we love this wine?

Each vintage, this producer blind tastes each of their vineyards separately to see which sites have produced the quality needed to be bottled as a standalone wine. Since the inception of the single vineyard wines, this beaut vineyard has not missed a vintage, speaking to the quality that this site produces year in, year out. This is the estate's highest and most sun-exposed site, allowing for the perfect development of flavour, while cooling sea breezes extend the growing season and ensure layers of complexity and freshness in the resulting wine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tasmania's cool maritime climate creates ideal conditions for Pinot Noir, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining natural acidity and developing complex flavours. The cooling sea breezes mentioned for this vineyard are typical of Tasmania's wine regions, extending the growing season and preventing the delicate Pinot Noir grapes from becoming overripe. This results in the elegant, lighter style that Tasmanian Pinot Noirs are renowned for globally.

Single vineyard wines showcase the unique characteristics of one specific site, rather than blending grapes from multiple locations. This vineyard has consistently met the producer's quality standards every vintage since their single vineyard program began, demonstrating exceptional terroir. The high elevation and sun exposure of this particular site creates distinctive flavour development, while the slate influence adds mineral complexity that reflects the vineyard's unique geological fingerprint.

Serve this wine slightly cooler than typical reds, around 14-16°C, to highlight its elegant structure and fresh characteristics. Light-bodied Pinot Noirs like this pair beautifully with salmon, duck, mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses where the wine won't overpower delicate flavours. The cherry and raspberry notes make it versatile enough for both casual dining and special occasions.

Organic certification ensures the vineyard was managed without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilisers, relying instead on natural methods to maintain soil health and vine balance. This approach often results in wines that better express their terroir, as the vines develop deeper root systems and stronger natural defences. For Pinot Noir, which is particularly sensitive to its environment, organic farming can enhance the pure fruit expression and mineral complexity evident in this wine's slate characteristics.

This 2023 Pinot Noir is drinking beautifully now, showcasing fresh cherry and raspberry flavours with mineral slate notes. While light-bodied Pinot Noirs are generally more approachable in their youth than heavier reds, quality single vineyard examples like this can develop additional complexity over 3-5 years. The wine's natural acidity and organic farming practices suggest it has good aging potential, but there's no need to wait if you're eager to experience its current vibrant fruit character.
