Outstanding. Adelaide Hills pinot to a tee. Bright acid, complex fruit, wonderful savoury spice. We get to try a lot of wine here at Vinomofo HQ (yep, it's a hard life) so it really does take something special to create the internal excitement that this wine has. We've been looking forward to sharing this one with you for a while now!

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Whole bunch fermentation is used in order to showcase the steep aspect of the famous vineyard from which this wine was born. Wild strawberries, raspberries, and red frog lollies are kept restrained by a regional leafiness and a subtle spice. This wine has plenty of guts but holds its elegance expertly. The next 2-5 years are going to be a very interesting time for this wine, expect intensity and savoury notes to grow into themselves. Drinking beautifully now for those who enjoy fruit forward pinot noir, will turn into a completely different beast if you'd like to hang onto it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Adelaide Hills' cool climate and elevation create ideal conditions for Pinot Noir, producing wines with natural acidity and elegant structure. This particular vineyard's steep aspect intensifies these characteristics, allowing the whole bunch fermentation technique to showcase the terroir's unique leafy, regional character. The combination of cool climate fruit intensity with restrained elegance is a hallmark of premium Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir.

Whole bunch fermentation includes grape stems during fermentation, adding structural tannins and spicy, herbal complexity to the wine. This technique enhances the wine's savoury character and contributes to the subtle spice and leafiness mentioned in the tasting notes. It's a traditional Burgundian method that helps create more textured, age-worthy Pinot Noir with greater depth and complexity than destemmed fermentation alone.

This wine offers two distinct drinking experiences depending on your preference. If you enjoy fruit-forward Pinot Noir with vibrant strawberry and raspberry flavours, it's drinking beautifully now. However, cellaring for 2-5 years will transform it into a completely different wine, with increased intensity and developed savoury characteristics. The wine's structure and quality suggest it will reward patient collectors with greater complexity.

A 95-point score represents exceptional quality, indicating this wine demonstrates outstanding character, complexity, and potential. Shanteh Wale is a respected wine critic, and such high scores are reserved for wines that show exemplary winemaking, terroir expression, and aging potential. Combined with the 4.1 Vivino rating and single vineyard designation, this suggests you're getting access to a premium wine at an exceptional value through this black market deal.

The wine's medium body and savoury, earthy character make it versatile with food, particularly dishes that complement its textured style. Try it with duck breast, mushroom risotto, or herb-crusted lamb where the wine's leafy notes will harmonise beautifully. The red fruit flavours also pair excellently with salmon, charcuterie, or aged cheeses. As it develops more savoury complexity over time, it will become even better suited to game meats and earthy dishes.
