This is the best 'anytime' pinot we've come across in a very long time. It's bright, red fruited and there's a very nice gloss and glide to the palate. Regional and very varietal - welcome this one in with open arms- pinot deals like this only come around once in a blue moon.

Why do we love this wine?

Ken Gargett once said of this producer's pinot that it was "amongst the best on the mainland", we tend to agree with Ken on matters regarding pinot noir - these guys have been pumping out some of our favourite examples of the grape for years now. Medium bodied, delightfully earthy, but backed up by lifted raspberry and red cherry notes that add real depth. There's a silkiness to the palate that only good pinots seem to be able achieve and the softest hint of tannin on the back end - we would absolutely have to agree that this wine offers a great deal of value in every sip... or gulp.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

Adelaide Hills' cool climate and elevated vineyards create perfect conditions for Pinot Noir, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining natural acidity. The region's diurnal temperature variation - warm days and cool nights - helps develop the complex flavour profile evident in this 2021 vintage. This terroir produces Pinot Noirs that balance fruit intensity with the earthy, savoury characteristics that define quality cool-climate expressions of this notoriously finicky variety.

The 94-point Wine Orbit rating reflects this wine's exceptional balance of earthy complexity and bright fruit character. Ken Gargett's praise as "amongst the best on the mainland" highlights how this producer has mastered the challenging art of Pinot Noir winemaking. The combination of lifted raspberry and cherry notes with underlying earthiness demonstrates the textural sophistication and varietal authenticity that critics seek in premium Australian Pinot Noir.

Serve this wine slightly below room temperature (14-16°C) to showcase its delicate aromatics and medium-bodied structure. The earthy, savoury profile pairs beautifully with roasted duck, mushroom risotto, or aged cheeses, while the bright cherry and raspberry notes complement salmon or herb-crusted lamb. The textural complexity makes it versatile enough for both casual dinners and special occasions.

This style descriptor indicates a wine with substantial mouthfeel and complexity beyond simple fruit flavours. The 'textured' element refers to the wine's ability to coat the palate with layers of flavour and tannin structure, while 'savoury' highlights earthy, mineral, and herbal notes that add sophistication. This combination creates a more food-friendly wine that evolves in the glass, revealing different characteristics as it opens up.

The 2021 vintage is rated as a 'Killer Vintage' for good reason - it delivered ideal growing conditions that allowed for excellent fruit development and flavour concentration. Cool, consistent weather during the growing season helped maintain the natural acidity crucial for elegant Pinot Noir, while avoiding the heat stress that can compromise delicate varieties. This vintage timing has resulted in wines with both immediate appeal and excellent aging potential.
