We get a bit excited about this one. Real pinot-heads of all shapes, sizes, cultures and creeds will agree on one thing: the Yarra Valley produces some bloody good pinot noir. And this is about as 'bloody good' as it gets!

Why do we love this wine?

A 97pt Halliday rating and 4.1 Vivino score confirm what we already suspected, both reviewers and punters are falling in love with this wine left, right and centre. Jump on it while you can, these never last long. 2020 was a bit of a ripper vintage, for the Yarra at least, and the result is soft yet generous pinot noir with wonderfully crisp acidity and enduring fruit. Think ripe cherries and fresh strawberries with an underlying earthiness and lingering velvety tannins. This has Yarra Valley pinot written all over it and with 4 or 5 years under its belt, this little number is raring and ready to go.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 2020 vintage was particularly outstanding in the Yarra Valley, benefiting from ideal growing conditions that produced concentrated yet elegant fruit. This wine's 97-point Halliday rating and Halliday Special Value Award reflect the perfect storm of exceptional vintage conditions, skilled winemaking, and the Yarra Valley's renowned cool-climate terroir. The combination of ripe fruit expression with crisp acidity showcases why 2020 is considered a benchmark year for the region.

The wine's textured, savoury profile with earthy undertones and allspice notes makes it incredibly food-friendly. Classic pairings include roasted duck, lamb with herbs, or mushroom risotto, where the wine's velvety tannins complement rich proteins without overwhelming them. The redcurrant fruit and crisp acidity also work beautifully with salmon, charcuterie, or aged cheeses, while the earthy complexity pairs wonderfully with truffle dishes or roasted root vegetables.

The Yarra Valley's cool climate and diverse soils create the perfect conditions for elegant Pinot Noir expression. This wine showcases the region's signature style with its balance of ripe fruit and earthy minerality, reflecting the valley's ancient volcanic soils and cool morning fogs. The underlying earthiness and crisp acidity are hallmarks of Yarra Valley Pinot Noir, while the soft yet generous fruit shows how the region's moderate temperatures allow for extended ripening without losing freshness.

With 4-5 years of bottle age already, this Pinot Noir is hitting its stride and drinking beautifully now. The tannins have softened to a velvety texture while the fruit remains vibrant, indicating optimal drinking conditions. However, quality Yarra Valley Pinot Noir like this can continue developing for another 3-5 years, potentially gaining more complex secondary flavours of forest floor, leather, and spice while maintaining its elegant fruit core.

Black Market Deals typically feature premium wines from renowned producers offered at exceptional value, often due to surplus stock or strategic partnerships. The combination of a 97-point Halliday rating, Special Value Award, and Five Star winery status suggests this is from a top-tier producer being offered below typical retail pricing. These deals are limited in quantity and time, explaining why they 'never last long' - serious wine collectors and enthusiasts quickly recognise the opportunity to secure premium Yarra Valley Pinot Noir at accessible prices.
