Why do we love this wine?

7 years can bring on a lot changes, we can imagine that this would have been extremely bright as a younger wine, as time has passed the brightness has not disappeared but interwoven its self into the wine, as with all aspects of this wine, we would describe it as 'well-integrated'. Silky tannins, beautifully vibrant acid and a savoury, earthy aspect that you only get from really good Adelaide Hills pinot. We wouldn't be aging this any more, mostly because right at this moment in time, we think this is completely perfect.

Frequently Asked Questions

After 7 years of careful ageing, this Adelaide Hills Pinot has reached that sweet spot where all its elements have harmoniously integrated. The initial bright fruit has evolved into a more complex, nuanced wine where the silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and earthy characteristics work in perfect balance. This is the ideal drinking window where the wine expresses its full potential without losing its essential character.

Adelaide Hills' cool climate and elevation create ideal conditions for Pinot Noir, producing wines with a distinctive savoury, earthy complexity that sets them apart from warmer regions. The region's diurnal temperature variation helps retain natural acidity while developing concentrated flavours, resulting in wines that showcase both elegance and depth. This particular example demonstrates the region's ability to produce Pinot with both power and finesse.

The black cherry provides the wine's fruit backbone, offering richness and sweetness that balances the earthier elements. The forest floor notes add complexity and terroir expression, bringing in mushroom, leaf litter, and mineral characteristics that ground the fruit and add sophistication. This combination creates a wine that's both approachable and intellectually engaging, typical of well-made cool-climate Pinot Noir.

Integration refers to how seamlessly all the wine's components - fruit, tannins, acidity, alcohol, and oak - blend together rather than standing out individually. In this Pinot, the silky tannins don't overpower, the vibrant acid doesn't dominate, and the savoury elements complement rather than compete with the fruit. It's the hallmark of a mature wine where time has allowed all elements to marry into a harmonious whole.

This Pinot has reached its optimal maturity where further ageing would likely diminish rather than enhance its qualities. The fruit is still vibrant and the structure remains intact, but extended cellaring could cause the delicate balance to tip towards over-maturity, potentially losing the bright acidity and fresh fruit characters that make it special. Drinking it now ensures you experience the wine at its absolute best.
