From a closely-guarded single vineyard, Halliday Wine Companion described this wine as, "Yarra Valley pinot royalty", and it's hard to argue anything different. Dense, dark and finally easing itself into an incredible drinking window.

Why do we love this wine?

We've got good news and bad news:
Bad news: This wine was designed to be consumed with around 5-10 years of bottle age.
Good news: We've done the aging for you! This robust, textural drop is absolutely singing right now and we're inviting anyone and everyone to join the chorus. Concentration, complexity and a dense texture built off the back of 13 months in 50% new French oak. The dark fruit, initially shy, has grown in confidence and power to become the pristine, brooding backbone of this richly-rewarding wine. To those who think Aussie pinots aren't worth aging we say this, think again...

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine was crafted with extended ageing in mind, requiring 5-10 years to reach its peak potential. Having been properly cellared since 2018, it has developed the complexity and integration that only time can provide. The initial shy dark fruit has evolved into a confident, brooding backbone, while the 13 months in 50% new French oak has seamlessly melded with the wine's natural character.

The Yarra Valley's cool climate and diverse soil types create perfect conditions for Pinot Noir's notoriously finicky nature. The region's temperature variations allow for slow, even ripening that preserves the grape's delicate aromatics while building complexity. This particular wine showcases the valley's ability to produce Pinot Noirs with both power and elegance, challenging preconceptions about Australian examples of this Burgundian variety.

The 13-month maturation in 50% new French oak has added layers of vanilla and structural complexity without overwhelming the delicate Pinot Noir fruit. French oak is prized for its tight grain and subtle flavour contribution, allowing the wine's natural forest floor and violet characteristics to shine through. This careful balance between fruit, oak, and time has created the dense, textural profile that defines this exceptional bottle.

James Halliday's 95-point score places this wine in the 'outstanding' category, representing fewer than 5% of wines reviewed annually. Halliday, Australia's most respected wine critic, awards such high scores only to wines showing exceptional quality, complexity, and ageing potential. The accompanying Five Star Winery rating indicates consistent excellence across the producer's entire portfolio, making this a standout example from an already elite operation.

Serve this wine at 16-18°C to showcase its evolved aromatics and textural complexity. The savoury, forest floor characteristics make it perfect for game birds, duck, or mushroom-based dishes that complement its earthy undertones. Given its maturity and concentration, decanting 30 minutes before serving will help the wine open up and reveal its full spectrum of flavours developed through careful ageing.
