This one's a bit serious. Pinotfiles of all shapes, sizes, cultures and creeds can all agree on one thing: the Yarra Valley produces some bloody good pinot noir. Generous, soft and complex - this'll get you there.

Why do we love this wine?

The 2018 vintage brought somewhat warm conditions, for the Yarra at least, and the result is soft yet generous pinot noir with wonderfully crisp acidity and enduring fruit. Think ripe cherries and fresh strawberries with an underlying earthiness and lingering velvety tannins. This has Yarra Valley pinot written all over it and with 7+ years under its belt, this little number is raring and ready to go.

Frequently Asked Questions

After 7+ years of careful cellaring, this wine has reached optimal drinking maturity, which qualifies it as a museum release. The extended bottle age has allowed the tannins to soften beautifully while the fruit flavours have developed greater complexity and integration. Museum releases represent wines that have been held back from market to showcase how proper ageing transforms a wine's character and drinking experience.

The Yarra Valley's cool climate and varied topography create perfect conditions for Pinot Noir, allowing the grape to ripen slowly while retaining crucial acidity. The region's diverse soil types, from clay to volcanic loam, contribute to the characteristic earthiness found in this wine. This terroir combination produces Pinot Noirs with the elegant balance of fruit intensity and savoury complexity that Yarra Valley is renowned for globally.

The warmer 2018 vintage in Yarra Valley resulted in riper fruit flavours, evident in this wine's generous cherry and strawberry notes. However, the region's inherent cool climate character preserved the crisp acidity that provides structure and freshness. This vintage balance creates a wine that's both approachable and complex, with the warmth adding richness while maintaining the elegant restraint typical of quality Yarra Valley Pinot Noir.

The wine's medium body and velvety tannins make it versatile with both lighter and richer dishes. The cherry and strawberry fruit pairs beautifully with duck, salmon, or mushroom-based dishes, while the underlying earthiness complements aged cheeses and charcuterie. The crisp acidity cuts through richer preparations, making it excellent with roasted chicken or pork belly, and the wine's maturity handles more complex, herb-driven cuisine with ease.

This wine is at its peak drinking window right now, having already benefited from 7+ years of bottle development. The tannins have softened to a velvety texture while the fruit remains vibrant and well-integrated with the earthy undertones. While it could potentially age another 2-3 years, it's currently showing the beautiful harmony between fruit, earth, and structure that defines perfectly mature Pinot Noir - there's no need to wait any longer to enjoy it.
