Serious pinot drinkers know the good stuff can cellar for years and years. This 12-year-old stunner proves this theory in the most delicious way possible. Slippery and smooth and only just starting to dip into tertiary territory, this will easily continue to go for many years to come - we're drinking now. With fatty meats, this has the guts to handle it!

Why do we love this wine?

With a 40% new French oak profile, this wine was described by some as muscular and tightly coiled in its youth. Well, while it's still got some serious heft behind it, the 12 years of careful cellaring has softened the brash bravado, and a more elegant and refined wine has emerged, much to its betterment. The velvety tannins and spice have softened, the deep broody fruit has beautifully integrated into earthy layered complexity, all while providing harmonious balance with the supple acid.

Frequently Asked Questions

Museum releases represent wines that have been carefully cellared by the winery for extended periods to reach optimal drinking condition. This 2013 Pinot Noir has undergone 12 years of professional cellaring, transforming from its initially muscular and tightly wound character into a refined, elegant wine with beautifully integrated flavours and softened tannins. The extended ageing has allowed the wine to develop complex earthy layers while maintaining perfect balance.

The 40% new French oak profile initially gave this wine its muscular backbone and spice characteristics. French oak is prized for its tight grain and subtle vanilla notes, which complement Pinot Noir's delicate fruit without overwhelming it. After 12 years, the oak has seamlessly integrated, contributing to the wine's velvety tannin structure and adding complexity rather than dominating the palate, showcasing the hallmark elegance that makes French oak ideal for premium Pinot Noir.

The Yarra Valley's cool climate and diverse soil types create perfect conditions for Pinot Noir, allowing the grape to ripen slowly while retaining natural acidity. The region's temperature variations between day and night help develop the cherry and cranberry flavours evident in this wine, while the cooler conditions preserve the grape's inherent elegance. This terroir contributes to the wine's ability to age gracefully, as demonstrated by this beautifully evolved 2013 vintage.

Serve this museum release at 16-18°C to allow its complex earthy layers and integrated spice notes to fully express themselves. Decant the wine 30-60 minutes before serving to help the evolved tannins open up and reveal the wine's full aromatic profile. The wine's medium body and refined character make it perfect for pairing with duck, lamb, or aged cheeses, where its 12 years of development can complement rather than compete with food flavours.

Single vineyard wines represent grapes sourced from one specific site, allowing the unique characteristics of that particular terroir to shine through without blending. This designation typically indicates higher quality fruit and more focused winemaking, as the producer has identified this vineyard as exceptional enough to stand alone. The single vineyard status of this Pinot Noir means you're experiencing the pure expression of one special Yarra Valley site, enhanced by 12 years of careful ageing.
