Not all McLaren Vale shiraz is created equal. Particularly when Penny's Hill are using fruit from the famed Skeleton Key Block... this one just feels different. Just feels more luxurious. It's rich, it's concentrated and it's structural but it's also juicy and generous in a beautifully satisfying way.

Why do we love this wine?
Perched at 140 metres elevation, this vineyard runs cooler than most of its neighbours during ripening, giving the fruit time to develop proper complexity without getting stressed or overcooked. Add in vines planted back in 1991 at high density - meaning each one carries less fruit and puts more into what it does produce - and you've got the kind of raw material that makes winemakers very happy indeed. What ends up in the glass is shiraz with genuine finesse and a point of difference. Red cherry, blueberry and a lifted perfume upfront, with milk chocolate, anise and subtle oak spice adding depth without crowding the fruit. The palate is concentrated and focused, the tannins fine and purposeful, the finish long and elegantly structured.
