McLaren Vale cabernet has been quietly building a reputation as one of Australia's most exciting regional expressions - and single vineyard releases like this one are exactly why. But let's lead with the number that stopped us in our tracks. 97 points from Decanter. If you know, you know - Decanter don't hand out scores like that to anyone. They're arguably the toughest room in the world to impress, and this wine just walked in and owned it.

Why do we love this wine?
The fruit comes from Peppermint Farm, planted back in 1994. Sixteen months in French oak barriques, and not a moment of that time wasted. Cedar, sandalwood, dark berry and a subtle thread of fennel and sage leaf on the nose - fragrant and composed without being showy. The palate brings ripe plum, blackcurrant and olive tapenade together with fine, linear tannins and a long savoury finish that genuinely doesn't want to leave. 95 points from Halliday's Marcus Ellis too, who called it "a beautifully judged Vale cabernet." We'd go further. This is the first release from this vineyard, and based on what's in the bottle, people are going to be talking about it for a very long time.
