Jacaranda Ridge is a name that cabernet lovers know well, and for good reason. This single vineyard site in the northern stretch of Coonawarra consistently produces wines of depth, structure and serious longevity. It's no exaggeration to say that this is consistently up there with some of the best cabernet sauvignons.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

The terra rossa soils, cool climate and meticulous winemaking all come together here to give cabernet its truest voice. The nose is textbook Coonawarra: cassis and blackberry leaf leading the charge, followed by darker berry fruits, savoury leather, spice and a touch of French oak. On the palate it’s all about precision and drive - concentrated black fruit wrapped in a tight tannin frame, with bright acidity giving lift and clarity. Toasted cedar and subtle oak notes play in the background, adding polish without stealing the show. This is cabernet with backbone - a wine built to age gracefully, but already showing the elegance and intensity that makes Coonawarra one of the world’s greatest cab regions. Drink it now with a good decant alongside roast lamb or venison, or tuck it away for 10-15 years and watch it evolve into something truly special.

Frequently Asked Questions

Coonawarra's unique terra rossa soils - a thin strip of red clay over limestone - create ideal drainage and mineral complexity that Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in. The cool climate allows for extended ripening periods, developing intense fruit concentration while maintaining the bright acidity that gives this Orlando wine its precision and aging potential. These conditions produce Cabernets with distinctive cassis and eucalyptus characteristics that have earned global recognition.

Given this wine's full-bodied structure and tight tannin frame, decanting for 1-2 hours will help open up the concentrated black fruit flavors and integrate the French oak notes. The 2018 vintage is still relatively young for a premium Coonawarra Cabernet, so decanting allows the wine to show its true potential by softening the tannins and revealing the complex leather and spice characteristics.

The 2018 vintage in Coonawarra was characterized by ideal growing conditions that allowed for optimal fruit concentration and tannin development. This Orlando Cabernet showcases the vintage's success with its exceptional critic scores of 96 and 95 points, reflecting the wine's perfect balance of power and elegance. The vintage produced wines with excellent aging potential, making this bottle ideal for both current enjoyment and long-term cellaring.

The wine's concentrated black fruit and firm tannin structure make it perfect for rich, protein-heavy dishes like roast lamb or venison as mentioned in the tasting notes. The leather and spice characteristics also complement aged cheeses and grilled red meats beautifully. The French oak integration and cedar notes create harmony with dishes featuring herbs like rosemary or thyme, while the wine's acidity cuts through fatty cuts of beef.

This Cabernet is beautifully balanced for both immediate enjoyment and long-term aging - a hallmark of quality Coonawarra wines. While it's drinking well now with proper decanting, the tight tannin structure and concentrated fruit suggest it will develop additional complexity over 10-15 years in proper cellar conditions. As it ages, expect the primary fruit flavors to evolve into more tertiary notes while the tannins soften and integrate further with the oak.
