Classic cab - with Barossa muscle. Cabernet might not get the same spotlight as shiraz in the Barossa, but when it’s good - it’s outstanding. Bungalow Lane is a big, bold celebration of cabernet’s structure and flavour, showing just how well this variety thrives in Barossa soil and sunshine.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

From the first pour, it’s unapologetically cab. Blackcurrant and cassis lead the charge, with darker threads of plum and blackberry in the mix. There’s a savoury cab backbone too - tobacco leaf, cedar, a touch of graphite - all wrapped up with well-judged oak. The palate is full-bodied and robust, with firm but ripe tannins that coat the mouth and carry the fruit into a long, satisfying finish. This is cabernet built for hearty food — slow-braised beef, roast lamb, or anything charred over charcoal. It’s drinking beautifully now with a decent decant, but it’s got the bones to go another 8-10 years if you’ve got patience and a good cellar. Barossa might be famous for shiraz, but this bottle proves cabernet deserves a spot in the conversation - rich, structured, and completely delicious.

Frequently Asked Questions

While Barossa Valley is globally renowned for its powerful Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon like this Orlando represents a hidden gem of the region. The warm continental climate that makes Barossa famous for Shiraz also creates ideal conditions for Cabernet, producing wines with intense fruit concentration and the structured tannins that define great examples of this variety. Many producers focus on Shiraz due to market demand, making quality Barossa Cabernets like this one particularly valuable discoveries.

This full-bodied 2019 Cabernet benefits from at least 1-2 hours of decanting to allow the firm tannins to soften and the complex aromatics to fully express themselves. The wine's robust structure and concentrated fruit flavours will continue to evolve in the glass, revealing more of those savoury tobacco and cedar notes. For optimal enjoyment, decant and serve at 16-18°C to balance the wine's power with its elegant complexity.

The combination of firm but ripe tannins, well-integrated oak, and concentrated fruit provides the structural backbone necessary for extended ageing. Cabernet Sauvignon's natural acidity and tannin structure, enhanced by quality winemaking, allows the wine to develop tertiary flavours over 8-10 years. As it matures, expect the primary blackcurrant flavours to evolve into more complex notes of leather, earth, and dried herbs while the tannins become increasingly silky.

The wine's robust tannins and savoury backbone make it perfect for dishes prepared with high-heat cooking methods that create caramelisation and char. Grilling, roasting, and slow-braising develop the Maillard reactions that complement the wine's tobacco, cedar, and graphite notes. The full-bodied structure can stand up to rich, fatty cuts of meat where the tannins help cleanse the palate between bites.

The mint character in this Cabernet likely comes from eucalyptus influence common in Australian vineyards, where native eucalyptus trees grow near vines. This herbaceous quality adds complexity to the wine's flavour profile, balancing the rich blackcurrant fruit with a fresh, cooling element. These mint notes often become more pronounced with proper aeration and can evolve into more complex herbal characteristics as the wine ages.
