Silky, elegant Central Otago pinot from the legendary Jen Parr, featuring the famous “gumboot clone” or "Abel clone", smuggled from Burgundy’s most sacred vineyard (DRC). Dark cherry and plum richness meets raspberry brightness in this beautifully crafted expression that punches well above its weight.

Why do we love this wine?

This is what happens when New Zealand’s 2020 Winemaker of the Year gets her hands on Central Otago fruit - pure liquid gold at a price that’ll make you question reality. Jen Parr has built her reputation crafting award-winning Pinots at Valli Vineyards, and this Neck of the Woods project showcases exactly why she’s considered one of the country’s finest. The wine itself is a masterclass in elegance - silky plum and dark cherry aromatics give way to bright raspberry and cassis on the palate, finishing with that long, graceful conclusion that separates great Pinot from the pretenders. But here’s the kicker - this beauty contains the legendary “Abel clone,” DNA smuggled from Burgundy’s holy grail, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, in a Kiwi traveller’s gumboot back in the ’70s. Sourced from two contrasting Bendigo vineyards - one on the valley floor, one high on schist soils - this is Central Otago Pinot with serious pedigree at a seriously good price. Hand-picked, partly whole bunch fermented, and aged 11 months in French oak. One for the real collectors... when it’s gone, it’s gone.
