Fun fact: 'Mollydooker' is old-timey Australian slang for 'South-paw', or a left-handed boxer and let's just say this - it definitely packs a punch (excuse the pun). Ripe dark fruit, American oak, silky tannins and a long, long finish. It's powerful, perky, and, in our eyes: perfect.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

The 2022 Boxer is bold and expressive, built on a core of dark fruit, black cherries, dark chocolate, and a flicker of clove spice. Velvety in texture, it glides across the palate with juicy plum, balanced tannins, and a good lick of toasty oak. Rich, layered, and impressively structured, this is a wine that doesn’t hold back. Like any good boxer, this one comes at you with combinations, the nose softens you up, like a a couple of good jabs, and the knock out blow? An opulent, powerful palate that just goes BANG! If your ears aren't ringing from that, the lingering natural acid and ripe tannin will have you on the canvas, yet ready for more. Wonderful stuff.

Frequently Asked Questions

These two South Australian regions complement each other beautifully for Shiraz production. McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate and ancient soils contribute intense fruit concentration and spice complexity, while Langhorne Creek's cooler breezes from Lake Alexandrina help maintain natural acidity and structure. The combination allows Mollydooker to craft a wine that balances power with elegance, showcasing the dark fruit intensity McLaren Vale is famous for whilst benefiting from Langhorne Creek's ability to preserve freshness in full-bodied reds.

The 2022 vintage earned 'Killer Vintage' recognition, indicating exceptional growing conditions that year. This translates to optimal fruit ripeness and concentration in The Boxer, allowing the dark cherry and chocolate flavours to develop fully whilst maintaining the natural acidity that provides structure. Exceptional vintages like 2022 typically produce wines with greater aging potential and more complex flavour development, meaning this Shiraz should continue evolving beautifully over the next 8-10 years.

The Boxer's bold structure and dark fruit profile make it perfect for rich, flavourful dishes that can match its intensity. Think grilled ribeye with peppercorn sauce, slow-braised lamb shanks, or aged hard cheeses like vintage cheddar. The wine's mocha and spice notes also complement barbecued meats beautifully, while its balanced tannins won't overpower dishes with earthy mushrooms or dark chocolate desserts. The key is matching the wine's power with equally robust flavours.

Mollydooker, founded by Sarah and Sparky Marquis, revolutionised Australian winemaking with their innovative techniques and commitment to producing fruit-forward, accessible wines without compromising quality. Their 'Mollydooker Shake' technique and focus on expressing terroir through bold, characterful wines has earned international acclaim. The 'Women in Wine' recognition also highlights Sarah Marquis's pioneering role in an industry traditionally dominated by men, making Mollydooker a trailblazer for both winemaking innovation and gender equality in Australian viticulture.

Serve The Boxer at 16-18°C to allow its complex aromatics to fully express themselves - slightly cooler than room temperature brings out the dark fruit and spice beautifully. Decant for 30-60 minutes before serving to soften the tannins and enhance the velvety texture. Store bottles on their side in a cool, dark place around 12-15°C, and this wine should develop additional complexity over the next 5-8 years, though it's absolutely delicious now with its current bold, expressive character.
