Here's what you get when one of McLaren Vale's top producers gets itchy feet... After seeing just how ridiculous the 2022 season was shaping up, they couldn’t resist dipping into prime Barossa fruit as well. Different postcode, same obsession with quality. And honestly, you're going to be very glad they trusted their instincts.

Why do we love this wine?

This is a serious Shiraz. Pitch-black in the glass, the aromatics roll out in waves - blackberries at full throttle, dark cocoa, a lick of liquorice, a hint of tapenade and something savoury and gamey that keeps it all nice and grown-up. There’s a sweet spice and toasted oak note humming along underneath, tying it all together. On the palate it’s dense and indulgent without tipping into overkill territory. Ripe plum and blackberry glide across a plush, velvety texture, framed by fine tannins that give it shape and staying power. It’s generous, layered and long - the kind of red that lingers in conversation as much as it lingers on the finish. And then there’s the bottle. Classic Chianti shape - a quiet nod to the family’s Italian roots and the traditions that inspired the current generation. Old world silhouette, full-throttle Australian fruit. Drink now or hold for like 10 or 15 years? This one bats deep.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Shiraz showcases the distinctive Barossa Valley terroir with its pitch-black colour and complex aromatics including tapenade and gamey notes that add savoury sophistication. The wine demonstrates the region's ability to produce full-throttle fruit while maintaining elegance, with the classic Chianti-shaped bottle reflecting the winemaker's Italian heritage. At 96 points from Sam Kim, it represents exceptional quality even within Barossa's prestigious Shiraz landscape.

This wine is designed for both immediate enjoyment and extended cellaring, with the producer suggesting 10-15 years of ageing potential. The fine tannin structure and full-bodied palate weight provide the backbone necessary for long-term development, while the concentrated fruit and oak integration will evolve beautifully over time. The 2022 vintage's 'Killer Vintage' rating suggests optimal growing conditions that typically translate to excellent cellaring prospects.

The wine's savoury complexity with black olive and dark chocolate notes makes it perfect for rich, umami-driven dishes like slow-braised lamb, aged beef steaks, or Mediterranean-style preparations. The gamey aromatics and tapenade characteristics complement charcuterie boards and strong cheeses beautifully. Its velvety texture and generous fruit also pair excellently with barbecued meats, making it ideal for Australian outdoor dining.

The classic Chianti bottle shape represents a thoughtful tribute to the winemaking family's Italian heritage and old-world traditions that influenced their approach. This design choice creates an intriguing contrast between the traditional European silhouette and the bold, full-throttle Australian fruit character within. It reflects how modern Australian winemaking often draws inspiration from European traditions while expressing distinctly local terroir and style.

These sophisticated tasting descriptors signal a wine that transcends simple fruit-forward characteristics, indicating complex fermentation and maturation processes that develop savoury, umami-rich compounds. The tapenade notes suggest olive and herb complexity often found in premium Barossa Shiraz, while gamey characteristics indicate the wine's ability to complement rich proteins and demonstrate serious ageing potential. These elements distinguish it as a 'grown-up' wine with restaurant-quality complexity.
