Why do we love this wine?

Here's something a bit different - a delicate yet full-flavoured light dry red made from the exact same grapes that go into those gorgeous rosés you love. Think of it as rosé's cooler, more sophisticated older sibling. They've grabbed the most concentrated bits of rosé juice and left it chilling on skins for roughly 48 hours before pressing it off. Then comes partial barrel fermentation and about six months lounging in old French oak casks, just enough time to add texture without going too heavy-handed with the wood. What you end up with is a tight yet beautifully rounded palate absolutely loaded with everything that makes McLaren Vale grenache, mataro and cinsault so bloody good. Asian spice, red cherry, cranberry, musk and violet all showing up to the party - this is a wine for all seasons.

Frequently Asked Questions

This unique wine bridges the gap between rosé and traditional red wine through an innovative winemaking technique. The grapes undergo a brief 48-hour skin contact period, extracting just enough colour and tannins to create a light, elegant red that's designed to be served chilled. The partial barrel fermentation and six months in old French oak adds complexity without overwhelming the delicate fruit character, resulting in a wine that challenges conventional red wine expectations.

This McLaren Vale blend showcases the classic Mediterranean trio of grenache, mataro (mourvèdre), and cinsault - the same varieties traditionally used in premium rosé production. These grapes thrive in McLaren Vale's warm climate and are known for producing wines with bright acidity, elegant aromatics, and food-friendly characteristics. The blend capitalises on each variety's strengths: grenache provides the cherry fruit and spice, mataro adds structure and earthiness, while cinsault contributes floral lift and finesse.

Serve this wine well-chilled, similar to how you'd serve a rosé or light white wine - around 10-12°C is ideal. The chilled serving temperature enhances the wine's fresh fruit character and makes the tannins feel silky rather than grippy. Store it in a cool, dark place and once opened, it will maintain its vibrant character for 2-3 days in the refrigerator, making it perfect for casual sipping or progressive dinner pairings.

The wine's Asian spice notes and medium body make it incredibly versatile with cuisine that might overwhelm lighter wines but doesn't require a full-bodied red. Think Vietnamese pho, Korean bulgogi, Moroccan tagines, or Indian curry dishes where the wine's fruit-forward character can complement rather than compete with complex spicing. It also works beautifully with charcuterie, grilled salmon, or even pizza - essentially anywhere you want more complexity than rosé but less intensity than traditional red wine.

This style is crafted for immediate enjoyment rather than long-term cellaring, with its fresh fruit character and elegant structure designed to be appreciated in its youth. The NV (non-vintage) designation indicates the winemaker has prioritised consistency and immediate drinkability over age-worthiness. While it won't deteriorate quickly, the wine's charm lies in its vibrant red cherry, cranberry, and floral notes that are at their peak now, making it perfect for spontaneous entertaining or weeknight dinners.
