In a region where shiraz usually steals the spotlight, this cabernet quietly takes its rightful place at the table next to some of the heaviest hitting wines in the country. It’s not loud, it’s not showy — it just is that good. As we've said before (a million times) - Maverick simply can't stop making exquisite wines.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

From the first swirl, you’ll notice how impossibly refined it feels. Silky to the point of being dangerous, it glides across the palate like it owns the place. Juicy black fruits take the lead, with threads of eucalypt, dried herbs and that unmistakable varietal “cigar box” perfume drifting in as the wine stretches its legs in the glass. Then comes the finish - savoury, textural, and brimming with those gorgeous, black-tea tannins. They’re so fine, so moreish, you’ll wonder why every cabernet can’t behave like this.

Frequently Asked Questions

The exceptional silkiness comes from meticulous winemaking techniques that preserve the fruit's natural elegance while building structure. Barossa Valley's warm climate allows Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to ripen fully while retaining acidity, creating wines with power and finesse. The fine, black-tea tannins indicate careful extraction and possibly extended aging on quality oak, which integrates the wine's components seamlessly.

Eucalypt notes are classic in Australian Cabernet Sauvignon, reflecting the native flora surrounding many vineyards and the terroir's influence on grape development. The cigar box aroma is a hallmark of quality Cabernet Sauvignon, developing from the interaction between the wine's natural compounds and oak aging. These secondary aromas indicate the wine's complexity and potential for further development with proper cellaring.

A 96-point score from Wine Orbit places this wine in exceptional territory, representing outstanding quality that few wines achieve. Wine Orbit is respected for rigorous tasting standards, making this score particularly meaningful for Australian wines. Scores above 95 points typically indicate wines with remarkable complexity, perfect balance, and significant aging potential that will reward patient collectors.

The wine's full body and refined tannins make it perfect for rich, protein-heavy dishes like aged beef, lamb with rosemary, or mature hard cheeses. The blackcurrant and dark chocolate flavours complement grilled meats beautifully, while the savoury finish pairs excellently with mushroom-based dishes. The wine's elegance also allows it to enhance rather than overpower more delicate preparations like duck or venison.

Given the wine's exceptional structure, fine tannins, and 96-point rating, this Cabernet Sauvignon has excellent aging potential of 10-15 years or more. The 2021 vintage benefits from Barossa Valley's consistent growing conditions, providing the foundation for long-term development. As it ages, expect the primary fruit flavours to evolve into more complex tertiary notes while the tannins continue to integrate and soften.
