Why do we love this wine?

Ladies and gentlemen - can you hear the lion roar? Yes, the Golden Lion is back and fiercer than ever!

The universally-adored Lou Miranda shiraz is without a doubt one of our favourite wines, for so many reasons. Unmistakably Barossa, and as ferociously opulent as the name suggests. All family owned, all female run, all quality driven, and all American oak are just some of the great things about this wine year after year. The 2019 vintage was a stand out vintage for Barossa, something you can’t help but notice in this fruit driven, dramatic wine. Dark berries, plums and abundant spices, with a toasty, creamy and coconut-rich finish. It’s big, bold, and ballsy drinking to sink your teeth into at important family get-togethers. This beast will cellar for a decade or more, easily. That’s no reason to shy away from opening it though. We’re betting this lion won’t stay caged for long.

Superbly ripe and perfumed with black/blueberry, vanillin oak, clove and dark cocoa characters, leading to a plush palate that' s concentrated and sumptuous. Delectably smooth and richly textured, making it immensely appealing. At its best: now to 2034.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Golden Lion Shiraz exemplifies the bold, opulent style that Barossa Valley is renowned for, with its full-bodied structure and American oak influence creating distinctive toasty, coconut-rich flavours. The 2019 vintage was particularly exceptional for the region, resulting in intensely concentrated dark berry and plum characteristics. Being crafted by female winemaker Angela Miranda, who brings international experience from seven countries, adds a unique perspective to traditional Barossa winemaking techniques.

This robust Shiraz has excellent cellaring potential of a decade or more, thanks to its full-bodied structure and quality American oak integration. The wine's high tannin content and concentrated fruit will allow it to develop greater complexity over time, with the bold berry flavours mellowing and secondary earthy notes emerging. However, it's also designed for immediate enjoyment - the 2019's exceptional fruit quality means you don't need to wait to experience its dramatic, feast-worthy character.

The wine's bold, spice-driven profile and American oak influence make it perfect for rich, flavourful dishes that can match its intensity. Think slow-cooked beef, lamb shanks, or barbecued meats where the wine's plum and blackberry notes complement charred flavours beautifully. The toasty, coconut-rich finish from oak aging also pairs wonderfully with dishes featuring warm spices or even dark chocolate desserts, creating harmonious flavour bridges.

The dual 95-point scores from Wine Showcase and Wine Orbit indicate exceptional quality that places this Shiraz in the top tier of Australian wines. These ratings reflect the wine's perfect balance of concentrated fruit, well-integrated oak, and structural integrity that defines premium Barossa Shiraz. Combined with gold medal recognition, these scores suggest the 2019 vintage successfully captures both the region's terroir and the winemaker's skill in creating a wine of outstanding complexity and aging potential.

American oak is a deliberate stylistic choice that enhances this Shiraz's bold, approachable character with distinctive vanilla, coconut, and toasty flavours that complement the intense dark fruit. Unlike French oak's subtle influence, American oak provides more pronounced flavours that can stand up to Shiraz's naturally powerful fruit concentration. This traditional Barossa approach creates the wine's signature creamy texture and spice complexity, perfectly suiting the 'Golden Lion' philosophy of creating wines that are unapologetically bold and flavour-forward.
