Power and punch with other-worldly levels of deliciousness. This is a seriously robust shiraz that's ready to be enjoyed now but will live long into the future. Don't be afraid to hold on to a couple of bottles - if you can keep your hands off it.

Why do we love this wine?

In the glass, the colour is a deep crimson red and there’s lifted aromas of plum, pepper, vanilla and dark chocolate. The palate is full and generous with dark fruits, interwoven spice and savoury tannins. With Angela Miranda at the helm of the winemaking, you can really feel the love in every glass. There's a good dose of American oak in the ageing regime on this, adding a touch of coconut and further vanilla to the wine. It’s ready to go with a big ol' steak right now or will happily nap in your cellar for 15 years. This big boy is here for you now and well into the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Golden Lion Reserve showcases the classic Barossa Valley style with its deep concentration and American oak influence, which adds distinctive coconut and vanilla notes alongside the traditional pepper and spice. The Barossa's warm climate and ancient soils produce Shiraz with exceptional depth and power, while Angela Miranda's winemaking approach emphasizes balance between fruit intensity and structural tannins. The combination of lifted aromatics and full-bodied palate represents the pinnacle of what makes Barossa Shiraz internationally renowned.

While this wine is drinking beautifully now with its generous dark fruit and integrated oak, it has excellent aging potential of up to 15 years. The savoury tannins and full-bodied structure provide the backbone needed for extended cellaring, during which the American oak will integrate further and the wine will develop more complex tertiary flavors. For optimal enjoyment, consider drinking some bottles young to appreciate the vibrant fruit, while cellaring others to experience how the wine evolves into a more nuanced, mature expression.

The wine's robust tannins and rich dark fruit profile make it an ideal match for red meat, particularly grilled or roasted beef where the char complements the wine's peppery spice notes. The American oak influence and vanilla undertones also pair beautifully with barbecued meats or dishes featuring smoky flavors. Consider lamb with rosemary, aged hard cheeses, or even dark chocolate desserts to complement the wine's chocolate and spice characteristics mentioned in the tasting notes.

The American oak aging regime contributes significantly to this wine's character, imparting the distinctive coconut and vanilla flavors that complement rather than overpower the fruit. American oak tends to be more assertive than French oak, adding sweet spice and a creamy texture that enhances the wine's full-bodied nature. This oak treatment also helps stabilize the wine's color and provides additional tannins that contribute to its 15-year aging potential, creating a harmonious integration between fruit, oak, and structure.

Angela Miranda's approach emphasizes expressing the true character of Barossa Shiraz while maintaining elegance within the wine's powerful framework. Her winemaking philosophy focuses on balancing the intense fruit concentration typical of the region with structured tannins and thoughtful oak integration. The result is a wine that showcases both power and finesse, with lifted aromatics that prevent the full-bodied nature from becoming heavy or overwhelming, demonstrating the skill required to craft premium Barossa Shiraz.
