Why do we love this wine?

Here you go: immaculately made, impeccably cellared shiraz from the best of the best. Now that is a good deal. Six years on and this wine is absolutely singing. Ripe with blackberry, liquorice, spiced plums and only a slight hint of leather and kirsch. If we were able to write exactly what we think, we would be throwing a few swear words your way.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Barossa Shiraz has reached its sweet spot after six years of careful cellaring, developing complex secondary flavours while retaining its vibrant fruit character. The extended ageing has allowed the wine's tannins to soften and integrate beautifully, while subtle leather and kirsch notes have emerged to complement the primary blackberry and spiced plum flavours. This demonstrates how premium Barossa Shiraz can evolve magnificently with proper storage, transforming from a powerful young wine into something truly exceptional.

The 96-point Wine Orbit rating reflects the exceptional quality achieved through meticulous winemaking and ideal vintage conditions in the Barossa. Critics recognise the wine's perfect balance between power and elegance, with its full-bodied structure supporting complex flavour layers without overwhelming the palate. The combination of ripe fruit concentration, well-integrated oak, and emerging tertiary characters creates the kind of harmonious complexity that separates truly great wines from merely good ones.

This rich, full-bodied Shiraz demands equally substantial fare to match its intensity and complex flavour profile. Think slow-cooked lamb shanks with rosemary, grilled ribeye with black pepper, or aged hard cheeses like vintage cheddar. The wine's liquorice and spice notes make it particularly excellent with Middle Eastern or North African cuisine featuring warming spices, while its robust tannins can stand up to rich, gamey meats like venison or duck.

The Barossa Valley's warm, dry climate and ancient soils create ideal conditions for producing intensely flavoured, full-bodied Shiraz with exceptional concentration. This region's unique terroir, with its mix of red clay and limestone subsoils, contributes to the wine's distinctive mineral backbone and ability to develop complex secondary flavours during cellaring. The Barossa's reputation for premium Shiraz stems from these perfect growing conditions combined with generations of winemaking expertise, evident in this wine's remarkable depth and structure.

While this Shiraz is absolutely singing now and drinking beautifully at six years old, premium Barossa Shiraz of this calibre typically has excellent cellaring potential for another 8-12 years. Currently, you'll enjoy the perfect marriage of primary fruit flavours with emerging complexity, but further cellaring will develop more tertiary characters like tobacco, cedar, and earthy undertones. The choice depends on your preference - immediate gratification of its current peak drinking window, or patience for even greater complexity down the track.
