Langhe Rosso is the everyday drink of the Piemontese. It's ready to drink young (no waiting a decade like with a Barolo) and pairs beautifully with most every dish on the table.

Why do we love this wine?

We’ve just imported our first wines from Bricco Carlina under their La Camilla label. Bricco Carlina is a tiny family-run winery and their attention to detail really shows through in their wines. The delicious La Camilla Langhe Rosso DOC 2022 is made from nebbiolo, barbera and dolcetto. It absolutely sings on the palate with a fresh expression of violet, raspberry and spice. Fans of pinot noir will want to crack a bottle of this. It’s light-bodied, pairs really well with lamb and has plenty of complexity for the ponderous types. You can save that Barolo for a special occasion and still feel transported to Northern Italy any night of the week.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine is crafted from three classic Piedmontese varieties: nebbiolo, barbera, and dolcetto. This traditional blend combines nebbiolo's structure and aromatics with barbera's bright acidity and dolcetto's soft, approachable character. The result is a harmonious wine that showcases the best qualities of each grape while remaining more accessible than single-varietal nebbiolo wines like Barolo or Barbaresco.

While sharing the same terroir and grape varieties as prestigious Barolo and Barbaresco, this Langhe Rosso offers exceptional value through its approachable style. The DOC regulations for Langhe are less restrictive than DOCG wines, allowing winemakers more flexibility in blending and aging requirements. This creates an opportunity to enjoy authentic Piedmontese character without the premium price tag of the region's most famous appellations.

The light-bodied nature and elegant violet and raspberry flavours create a similar drinking experience to quality pinot noir. Both wines emphasise finesse over power, with bright acidity and delicate fruit expression taking centre stage. The nebbiolo component particularly shares pinot noir's ability to express terroir through subtle aromatics and silky tannins, making this an excellent choice for those seeking that refined, food-friendly style.

As a tiny family-run operation, Bricco Carlina represents the artisanal side of Piedmontese winemaking that larger commercial producers often can't match. Their small scale allows for meticulous attention to detail in both vineyard management and winemaking processes. This hands-on approach typically results in wines that express a more personal vision and authentic sense of place, reflecting generations of local knowledge and tradition.

The wine's light body and fresh acidity make it particularly suited to lamb, as mentioned, but also excellent with other medium-weight proteins like duck or pork. The spice notes complement herb-crusted dishes, while the bright fruit flavours pair beautifully with mushroom-based pasta or risotto. Its Piedmontese origins make it a natural match for the region's cuisine, including truffle dishes and aged cheeses like Gorgonzola or Taleggio.
