Paper plates, a couple of charred snags, home-brand coleslaw and a glass of this. That sounds like a pretty special afternoon if you ask us. Everything about this is asking for some yummy food and a some good company. Even leave out the food if you like, this bad boy's good enough as is.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Made by a Vinomfo favourite, Adrian Santolin, this is a wine that's all about the occasion in which you open it. A field blend of who-knows-what, but that's the point, the variety of grapes simply doesn't matter. What matters is the vibrant blackcurrant, cherry and generous oak that tumble out of this bad boy. It sets you up for a long finish, backed by energetic acidity. You'd be hard pressed to find a better red wine for a BYO dinner or BBQ at home. Don't over-think this one, just find a glass, some hearty food and someone to share it with. You'll be humming!

Frequently Asked Questions

A field blend means multiple grape varieties are grown together in the same vineyard and harvested simultaneously, creating a wine where the exact varietal composition becomes secondary to the overall expression. This traditional winemaking approach allows the terroir and winemaker's skill to shine through, as Adrian Santolin demonstrates here. The beauty lies in how different varieties complement each other naturally, creating complexity that's often more interesting than single-varietal wines.

Adrian Santolin is a respected Victorian winemaker known for his approachable yet sophisticated style that prioritises drinkability and food-friendliness over pretension. His wines consistently deliver excellent value and showcase his ability to craft wines that are both technically sound and genuinely enjoyable. Santolin's philosophy aligns perfectly with the modern Australian wine scene - making quality wines that don't require overthinking but reward those who appreciate good craftsmanship.

This medium-bodied red is perfect for casual dining situations like BYO restaurants or home BBQs, where its generous oak and vibrant fruit can complement hearty, flavourful dishes. The blackcurrant and cherry notes pair beautifully with grilled meats, while the savoury bay leaf characteristics work well with herb-crusted lamb or beef. Serve at cellar temperature (16-18°C) and don't be afraid to open it an hour before serving to let those oak and fruit flavours integrate.

Energetic acidity is the backbone that keeps this wine fresh and food-friendly despite its generous oak treatment and ripe fruit flavours. It provides the structural framework that carries the blackcurrant and cherry notes through to the long finish, preventing the wine from feeling heavy or cloying. This acidity also makes it an excellent match for rich foods, as it cuts through fat and cleanses the palate between bites.

This 2021 vintage is crafted in a style that's designed for immediate enjoyment rather than long-term cellaring. The generous oak and vibrant fruit expression suggest Adrian Santolin intended this as a wine to be opened and shared without delay. While it could develop for a few more years, its peak drinking window is likely now through 2026, making it perfect for those spontaneous dinner parties or weekend gatherings where great wine shouldn't require planning ahead.
