Some wines sit in the cellar and wait for the perfect moment. This wine creates the perfect moment. A complete showstopper. With a super-heavy bottle, wax-dipped cork and embossed label, this wine talks the talk, but boy, does it walk the walk.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

A wine that consistently inspires almost indecent enthusiasm from all that pop the cork. These pioneer planted shiraz vines in the revered Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale have been hand-tendered continuously and painstakingly watched over since their planting. The result is a wine showing complexity, structure and intensity of flavour that is utterly unique to the vineyard and seldom seen anywhere else in the world. Rich, concentrated, dark red fruits and abundant ripe tannins are seamlessly integrated into spicy, perfumed oak to create a structural, but heavily fruit-weighted wine that will steal the spotlight and create memories from now until 2035 (at least).

"Oh, my. This is seriously good from the get-go on the nose through that final slurp on the palate. Loads of concentrated dark fruits are multi-faceted with red and black fruits complemented by some nice blue fruit fragrances. Seamless integration of fine chalky tannins and fine-grained oak supplement the supple fruit flavours of dark chocolate, plum and licorice. This is luxury." - Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot

Frequently Asked Questions

Blewitt Springs is one of McLaren Vale's most revered sub-regions, known for its unique terroir that produces Shiraz with exceptional complexity and intensity. The area's ancient soils and specific microclimate create ideal conditions for developing the concentrated, dark fruit flavours and structural tannins that define premium McLaren Vale Shiraz. This particular vineyard's pioneer plantings have been continuously hand-tended, allowing the vines to develop deep root systems that extract maximum character from this distinctive terroir.

This wine is built for extended cellaring, with the producer suggesting it will create memories until at least 2035. The abundant ripe tannins and structural backbone provide the framework needed for long-term ageing, while the concentrated dark fruit flavours will evolve and develop greater complexity over time. Full-bodied Shiraz from premium McLaren Vale sites like this often peak between 10-15 years but can continue drinking well for decades when properly stored.

The wine's exceptional ratings (including 97 points from both Ray Jordan and Wine Orbit) reflect its rare combination of power and finesse. Critics have recognised the seamless integration of rich, concentrated fruit with spicy, perfumed oak - a balance that's difficult to achieve and speaks to both exceptional fruit quality and skilled winemaking. The 'utterly unique' character mentioned stems from the specific vineyard site and meticulous viticulture practices that few producers can replicate.

This full-bodied, oak-influenced Shiraz with its black cherry and chocolate notes pairs beautifully with rich, flavourful dishes that can match its intensity. Think slow-cooked lamb shanks, grilled ribeye steak, or game meats like venison, where the wine's abundant tannins will complement the protein's richness. The spicy oak integration also makes it excellent with barbecued meats or dishes featuring herbs like rosemary and thyme, classic companions to McLaren Vale Shiraz.

Pioneer plantings refer to the original Shiraz vines established in this specific Blewitt Springs site, representing some of the earliest viticultural development in the area. These mature vines, having been continuously hand-tended since planting, have developed deep, complex root systems that access different soil layers and produce fruit with greater concentration and character. Old vine fruit typically yields smaller berries with higher skin-to-juice ratios, contributing to the wine's intensity and the complex tannin structure that critics have praised.
