Herència Altés 'La Xalamera' 2019
- Textured, savoury
- Terra Alta
Have you ever wanted to have your mind completely blown away by a glass of red wine? Well, here’s your chance. From one of Spain’s oldest wine regions, where grenache shines brighter than the sun (and in this region, that’s super bright and hot!). They call it garnatxa in Catalan, but it’s the same incredible grape that we know and love, capable of many faces.
Profile
From a single vineyard sitting at around 400m altitude, the dry soils offer little nutrients to these hardy vines. But, you know what they say about pressure and diamonds- these vines are arguably the same: gorgeous carbon gems. The fruit goes through 25% carbonic maceration (bringing out all the bright, floral, intense aromatics from the wine and its skins) before 14 months in large Austrian oak foudres. This wine will bring you to your knees, where you’ll be praising the grape gods for blessing your tongue with this earthly delight.
Reviews
James Suckling
“A perfumed nose of sour cherries, cranberries, redcurrants, lavender and sweet spices. Some wild rosemary, too. It’s medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. Fresh and juicy with crunchy character. Flavorful, spicy and long finish. 100% garnatxa negra. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink now or hold.”
