I was lucky enough to spend an afternoon with the team at Herencia Altes a couple of months back, and I was in awe of their ethos and their commitment to making bloody epic wines. Over a lunch, with all of their range on offer and a bowl of Salmorejo in front of me- I chose the ‘La Pilosa’ to whisk away the afternoon with.

Terra Alta is a region all about Grenache (or Garnatxa as it’s called in Catalan), and this wine is all about its native clone, ‘Garnatxa Peluda’ or ‘hairy grenache’. A wine with great finesse, with an abundance of thyme and rosemary wafting along the midline; mulberry, blackberry and slate coming right to the forefront. Genuinely stunning, completely unique. You won’t know what you’re missing until you try it.
