Blackcurrant, wild blueberry, graphite and violets greet the nose, with a cool, restrained elegance that tells you the vintage was something special before you've even taken a sip. Give it some air and the cedar, cocoa nib, tobacco leaf and mint start weaving themselves in. On the palate, silky and commanding in equal measure - pure, vibrant fruit framed by tannins so fine they feel almost weightless, yet somehow still holding the whole structure together. Black cherry, cassis and ripe plum glide through the middle, backed by smoked herbs, pencil shavings, dark chocolate and something like sweet earth. Decant it for a couple of hours if you can bear the wait. It'll reward the patience, and honestly, so will the next twenty to thirty years in your cellar.
