Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Here we have a classic blend breakdown of 50% grenache, 30% shiraz and 20% mourvedre. 2021 provided an ample yield without compromising on quality and fruit, and you can be assured that the old vines yielding this crop were well served by the vintage conditions. Partial whole bunch fermentation ensures lifted, herbaceous aromatics and maturation in french oak barriques provides a savoury spice. At its core you can expect ample fruit characteristics; namely plums, fuji apples and fresh picked raspberries. This is a bigger, bolder style of GSM without being jammy or punchy. It’s a crowd pleasing, ‘hard-not-to-enjoy’ smasher with a premium enjoyment and a quaffing price-point. A win-win situation, we think!

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Barossa GSM showcases the warmer Australian climate with its bold, fruit-forward character while maintaining classic French structure through partial whole bunch fermentation and French oak maturation. The 50/30/20 blend ratio favours grenache more heavily than traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape, creating a wine that's approachable yet complex. The combination of old vine fruit and modern winemaking techniques delivers premium quality at an accessible price point.

Partial whole bunch fermentation involves fermenting some grapes with their stems intact, which adds structural tannins and creates those distinctive herbaceous, lifted aromatics mentioned in the tasting notes. This technique is particularly effective with GSM blends as it enhances the natural spiciness of mourvedre and adds complexity to grenache's fruit character. It's a hallmark of quality winemaking that bridges traditional and modern approaches.

The 2021 vintage in Barossa provided excellent conditions with ample yields that didn't compromise quality, allowing the old vines to express their full potential. This translates to concentrated flavours without over-extraction, creating that 'bigger, bolder' style that avoids being jammy or overpowering. The vintage's success is evident in the wine's balance between power and elegance, making it both food-friendly and enjoyable on its own.

This textured, savoury GSM pairs beautifully with Mediterranean cuisine, particularly lamb dishes, grilled vegetables, and aged cheeses that complement its herbaceous notes. The plum and spice characteristics make it excellent with barbecued meats, while the French oak influence allows it to stand up to rich, slow-cooked stews and casseroles. Its crowd-pleasing nature means it's versatile enough for casual dining or special occasions.

The 95-point rating from Sam Kim and Five Stars from Wine Orbit indicate exceptional quality that typically commands much higher prices in the market. These scores reflect the wine's successful balance of old vine concentration, skilled winemaking, and vintage expression. For a Black Market deal, these ratings suggest you're accessing premium Barossa fruit that would normally be found in much more expensive bottles from recognised producers.
