Crafted as a tribute to the patriarch of the *redacted* family, this Rhône-style blend is a powerful nod to tradition, legacy and the varietals that defined this fabled producer’s winemaking philosophy. It’s bold, expressive, and as Barossan as they come - with a history as rich as the wine in your glass!

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

This one's sourced from premium estate vineyards scattered across the Barossa: Bush-vine mataro planted back in the 1880s, grenache from the sun-drenched Western Ridge, and select shiraz parcels (some from the cooler Eden Valley) - this is a deeply layered GSM with serious chops. The nose is bursting with ripe blackberry, raspberry compote and blueberry, framed by notes of cocoa, vanilla, and a dash of spice. There’s a touch of sarsaparilla and fruitcake, too - classic Barossa charm. The palate is generous and vibrant, layered with plummy richness, confected red fruits, liquorice, baking spice and a savoury earthiness beneath. The tannins have a silky but assertive nature, offering structure without losing that soft, juicy charm. Drink now for full-throttle fruit or cellar confidently through to 2033. Either way, this is a wine that honours the past, delivers in the present, and promises a wonderfully bright future.

Frequently Asked Questions

This GSM showcases the diversity of Barossa terroir by combining bush-vine mataro from the 1880s with grenache from the Western Ridge and shiraz parcels from the cooler Eden Valley. The blend demonstrates how different microclimates within the Barossa create complexity - the old mataro provides earthy backbone, the sun-drenched grenache adds bright fruit, and the Eden Valley shiraz contributes elegance and spice. This multi-vineyard approach creates layers that single-vineyard wines often can't achieve.

This wine is designed for both immediate enjoyment and medium-term cellaring until 2033, giving you about 13 years from vintage. The silky yet assertive tannin structure provides the backbone needed for ageing, while the generous fruit will evolve from primary berry flavours into more complex secondary characters like leather, tobacco, and dried herbs. GSM blends typically age gracefully because each variety contributes different elements - grenache provides fruit longevity, shiraz adds structure, and mataro brings savoury complexity.

The wine's rich, plummy character and savoury earthiness make it perfect for hearty dishes like slow-cooked lamb shoulder, beef bourguignon, or Mediterranean-style braised short ribs. The liquorice and baking spice notes complement dishes with herbs like rosemary and thyme, while the wine's generous fruit can handle bold flavours like aged cheeses or charcuterie. The meaty characteristics also pair beautifully with grilled portobello mushrooms or eggplant-based dishes for vegetarian options.

The bush-vine mataro planted in the 1880s represents some of Australia's oldest surviving vines, which naturally produce lower yields but more concentrated fruit. Old vines develop extensive root systems that access deeper soil layers, creating wines with greater mineral complexity and flavour intensity. These ancient vines also tend to be more resilient to vintage variation, providing consistency and depth that younger plantings simply cannot match, making them highly prized for premium blends.

A 4.0 Vivino rating across all vintages indicates consistently high quality and broad consumer appeal, as this score represents feedback from thousands of wine drinkers worldwide. This rating suggests the producer maintains excellent winemaking standards year after year, creating wines that deliver both immediate pleasure and lasting satisfaction. Combined with the 'Iconic Producer' designation, it signals this is from an established winery with a proven track record of crafting exceptional GSM blends that represent excellent value for money.
