Why do we love this wine?

This Barossa Valley blend combines old vine grenache, mataro and cinsault (46/39/15% this vintage) into something genuinely slurpable and effortlessly enjoyable. Lifted florals with slightly earthy rose petal character dominate the aromatics, while the medium-bodied palate shows beautiful mouthfeel with smooth, seamlessly integrated oak and tannin. The sweet fruit is balanced by slightly mineral savouriness that keeps everything fresh and moreish. What makes this particularly appealing is its versatility and approachability. It's got that vibrant hue and bouncy, lifted aromatic profile that flows into an airy mix of red fruits, spice, amaro and abundant florals. This one doesn't need to be over-analysed, just enjoy yourselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Unlike the bold, powerful Shiraz that Barossa is famous for, this blend showcases the region's softer side through old vine Grenache, Mataro and Cinsault. The combination creates a more elegant, floral-driven wine with lifted aromatics and seamless integration. The old vines contribute concentrated flavours while maintaining freshness, proving that Barossa can produce wines of finesse alongside its renowned blockbusters.

Serve this blend slightly cooler than typical reds, around 16-18°C, to highlight its floral aromatics and fresh fruit character. The medium body and smooth tannins make it incredibly food-friendly - pair it with Mediterranean dishes, grilled lamb, or even charcuterie. Its approachable style means it's equally enjoyable on its own or with company, making it perfect for casual entertaining.

The Grenache majority (46%) provides the wine's core of sweet red fruit and floral lift, while Mataro (39%) adds structure, earthiness and spice complexity. The smaller Cinsault component (15%) contributes to the wine's fresh acidity and aromatic intensity. This thoughtful blending creates a wine that's more complex than any single variety could achieve, with each grape playing a specific role in the final harmony.

This 2023 vintage is designed for immediate enjoyment and showcases beautiful integration already. The smooth tannins and balanced fruit suggest it's drinking beautifully now, though it could develop additional complexity over 3-5 years. Given its approachable style and the winemaker's emphasis on not over-analysing, it's perfect for opening tonight while still having the structure to reward short-term cellaring.

Old vine Grenache typically refers to vines 50+ years old, which naturally produce lower yields but more concentrated, complex fruit. These mature vines have deep root systems that access different soil layers, contributing to the wine's mineral savouriness and depth. In Barossa, old vine Grenache is particularly prized for its ability to maintain freshness and elegance despite the warm climate, explaining this wine's beautiful balance between richness and vibrancy.
