This is premium grenache from Frankland River, fast emerging as Australia's very own 'grenache country.' Raspberry, sage, rhubarb, sour cherry - it's got all the nuance and deftness of pinot but with a little more power under the hood.

Why do we love this wine?

On my last trip to Western Australian wine country all anyone wanted to talk about was grenache. It didn't take me long to see why. The wines are broadly excellent, offering both complexity and youthful exuberance. This fruit comes off the best vineyard in Frankland River, its processed with fruit purity front of mind and that shows in the end product. Fresh, fruit forward, exciting stuff.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frankland River's cool climate and ancient soils create perfect conditions for Grenache, allowing the variety to retain its natural acidity while developing complex flavours. The region's temperature variations between day and night help preserve the fresh fruit characteristics that make this wine so vibrant. This particular fruit comes from the best vineyard in the area, showcasing why Western Australian Grenache has become such a talking point among wine enthusiasts.

The medium-bodied nature of this Grenache makes it incredibly versatile for food pairing, sitting perfectly between lighter Pinot Noirs and heavier Shiraz styles. Its fresh fruit profile with black cherry and raspberry notes pairs beautifully with Mediterranean cuisine, grilled vegetables, or even spiced lamb dishes. The wine's youthful exuberance and balanced structure won't overpower delicate dishes but has enough weight to complement heartier fare.

Old vine Grenache typically produces more concentrated and complex wines due to the mature root systems that access deeper soil nutrients and water sources. These established vines naturally self-regulate their yield, resulting in smaller crops of higher quality fruit with more intense flavours. The combination of old vine fruit and small batch production methods ensures this wine delivers the depth and character that Grenache enthusiasts seek.

Serve this Grenache slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C, to highlight its fresh fruit characteristics and maintain its vibrant acidity. The wine's youthful nature means it's drinking beautifully now, showcasing those bright raspberry and rhubarb notes. While it can be enjoyed immediately, decanting for 30 minutes will help open up the more complex flavours and allow the wine's natural exuberance to shine through.

Western Australian Grenache has emerged as a standout variety because producers are focusing on fruit purity and expressing the unique terroir of regions like Frankland River. The combination of ideal growing conditions, boutique winemaking approaches, and old vine material is producing wines that offer both immediate appeal and underlying complexity. This wine exemplifies the exciting direction of Australian Grenache, balancing traditional varietal character with modern winemaking precision.
