This is plummy and ripe with blueberries and raspberries in the mix. The wine has enough acid to wrap that parcel of juicy fruit up and deliver it neatly through a lone, powerful finish.

Why do we love this wine?

We couldn't be more excited about the rise and rise of grenache in Australia. The renewed focus has allowed for more varied iterations, and wines with greater complexity. Where once all grenache was destined for the near ubiquitous GSM, now the variety is allowed to shine. This is plummy and ripe with blueberries and raspberries in the mix. The wine has enough acid to wrap that parcel of juicy fruit up and deliver it neatly through a lone, powerful finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Australian winemakers are finally recognising Grenache's potential as a standalone variety rather than just a blending component in GSM wines. The Barossa Valley's warm climate and old vine plantings create ideal conditions for producing complex, full-bodied expressions that showcase the grape's natural fruit intensity and spice characteristics. This shift has allowed winemakers to craft more nuanced wines that highlight Grenache's unique personality.

Barossa's continental climate with hot, dry summers concentrates the fruit flavours while maintaining crucial acidity levels. The region's ancient soils and many century-old Grenache vines contribute to the wine's depth and complexity. This 2018 vintage demonstrates the classic Barossa style with its plummy richness and berry complexity, while the natural acidity provides structure and longevity.

Serve this wine at cellar temperature (16-18°C) to allow its complex fruit flavours and full body to shine. The rich, plummy character pairs beautifully with grilled meats, Mediterranean dishes, or aged cheeses. Consider decanting for 30 minutes to open up the wine's aromatic profile and soften any tannins.

A 90-point rating from Tully indicates this is an exceptional example of Australian Grenache that punches well above its price point. Staff picks represent wines that offer outstanding quality-to-value ratio and demonstrate classic varietal characteristics. This score suggests the wine successfully balances fruit intensity with structural elements like acidity and tannins.

This wine is drinking beautifully now, with its fruit flavours at their peak and the acidity providing excellent balance. However, quality Barossa Grenache like this can develop additional complexity over 3-5 years, with the plum and berry notes evolving into more savoury, earthy characteristics. The wine's full body and natural acidity suggest it has good cellaring potential if stored properly.
