Vines planted way back in the 1960s delivering fruit with serious density and character. Vine age brings small bunches and a strong tannin structure that needs time to properly mellow - lucky for us, this one's done plenty of mellowing. We're left with a silky smooth wine that has proper power and structure under all that velvet.

Why do we love this wine?
They used to leave this beauty lounging in barrel for three years, but dialled it back to two to nail that sweet spot between complexity, mellow tannins and fresh fruit. Chuck in 25% new American oak from world class coopers - this is smart, considered winemaking that lets the pure fruit do the talking. The nose is ridiculously complex - violet floating up top, chocolatey depths down below, and literally everything else in between. Rich mulberry, black cherries, prune, honey, star anise, malt, chocolate... it's like someone bottled an entire spice market and threw in a fruit bowl for good measure. Muscular but not overly boisterous on the palate, peeling back layers as it runs very long with black fruits, cherry liqueur and baking spice clinging to fine, dusty tannins. There's power here, but it's controlled and refined - a fantastic wine that shows what old vines and patience can achieve.
