From one of the most-adored wineries in the region - this is Barossa cabernet on steroids. Bold, structured and built to impress. Grown high on the ridgeline at around 340m above sea level (that’s some serious altitude for Barossa), this vineyard sits just a stone’s throw from some of the most iconic cabernet blocks in the country. It's intense, infinitely layered and absolutely oozing Barossan with character. A 96pt score wasn't just expected, it was a certainty.

Why do we love this wine?

Super-dense crimson in the glass, this thing looks as rich as it tastes. Stick your nose in and it’s a full sensory workout: blackcurrant, blackberry and raspberry, all laced with tobacco leaf, earth and a dash of fruitcake spice. There’s even a touch of eucalypt lift for that unmistakable Aussie charm. The palate is hyper-concentrated, structured and seriously seductive. Think crème de cassis, dark fruit pastilles, sage, liquorice and just enough savoury edge to keep it grounded. Sandy, chalky tannins hold everything in check, drawing it all out into a long, elegant finish that just keeps going.

Frequently Asked Questions

The eucalyptus lift mentioned in the tasting notes is a signature characteristic of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon, particularly from warm climate regions like the Barossa Valley. This aromatic quality comes from the native eucalyptus trees that surround many Australian vineyards, subtly influencing the wine's flavour profile. Combined with the intense fruit concentration typical of Barossa reds, it creates that unmistakable Aussie charm that sets it apart from Cabernet Sauvignons from other wine regions worldwide.

The 2021 vintage in the Barossa Valley was marked by cooler conditions and lower yields, which contributed to the hyper-concentrated fruit character evident in this wine. These conditions allowed for extended ripening periods, developing the complex layers of dark fruit, tobacco, and spice while maintaining excellent natural acidity. The result is a wine with exceptional depth and structure that should age beautifully over the next 10-15 years, with the tannins softening to reveal even more complexity.

This wine's rich, concentrated profile and sandy tannins make it perfect for robust dishes that can match its intensity. Think slow-cooked lamb shoulder with rosemary, aged beef steaks, or rich game meats like venison. The savoury elements and liquorice notes also complement strong cheeses like aged cheddar or blue cheese. The wine's structure and tannins will cut through fatty meats while the fruit concentration won't be overwhelmed by bold flavours.

Sam Kim's 96-point rating places this wine in the 'outstanding' category, indicating exceptional quality that represents the top tier of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon. Wine Orbit ratings are highly respected in the Australian wine industry, and scores above 95 points are reserved for wines showing remarkable complexity, balance, and ageing potential. This rating suggests the wine not only delivers immediate drinking pleasure but also has the structure and depth to develop beautifully in the cellar for years to come.

Store this bottle on its side in a cool, dark place at around 12-15°C to preserve its concentrated flavours and allow proper development. Serve at 16-18°C to showcase the full spectrum of aromas and flavours - too cold and you'll miss the complexity, too warm and the alcohol will dominate. Decant for at least an hour before serving to allow the dense tannins to soften and the complex aromatics to fully express themselves. This wine will benefit from cellaring for 3-5 years but is drinking beautifully now.
