Why do we love this wine?

A richly textured and full-bodied wine designed to drink beautifully in its youth but has the structure and fruit concentration to age for a further 10 years. Pure black and red fruit, vibrant acidic structure and pillowy, fine-grained tannins; all this coupled with a healthy maturation in brand new American oak barrels create a chocolatey, silky and wholly mouth-filling wine. Throw in a few years of age and you've got a well-integrated, classically Barossa shiraz with a long life ahead of it. Drinking now? Decant for 30 minutes for best results!

A museum release from the Greenock vineyard, it is from another superb vintage for the region. Ageing was for two years in 100% American oak hogsheads, all new. Under cork.Deep maroon, this is just starting to show a little lightening on the edges. We have notes of cold tea, blackberries, mocha, aniseed and chocolate. There is a supple and sweet core of black cherries on the palate and serious length. The wine is finely balanced and with silky tannins and impressive length. Lots to love here and it should remain that way for the next ten to fifteen years.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Golden Amrita Shiraz showcases the classic Barossa style with exceptional concentration and structure that earned it 97 points from Wine Orbit. The combination of pure black and red fruit intensity with brand new American oak maturation creates a distinctive chocolatey, silky texture that's immediately appealing yet built for long-term cellaring. The producer's multiple winemaker of the year awards reflect their mastery of the region's terroir.

While this 2018 Shiraz is drinking beautifully now, it has the fruit concentration and tannin structure to develop for another 10 years in the cellar. The pillowy, fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity provide the backbone for extended ageing, during which the American oak will integrate further and the wine will develop more complex secondary flavours. If drinking now, decanting for 30 minutes will help open up the wine's full potential.

The rich, chocolatey profile and coconut notes from American oak make this Shiraz perfect for grilled red meats, particularly beef with barbecue or pepper-based sauces. The licorice and black cherry flavours complement game meats, aged cheeses, and dishes with earthy mushrooms. The wine's full body and fine tannins can stand up to bold flavours while the fruit concentration balances spicy cuisine beautifully.

Decanting this young, full-bodied Shiraz for 30 minutes allows the tight tannin structure to soften and the concentrated fruit flavours to open up properly. The process helps integrate the American oak influence with the pure black and red fruit character, revealing the wine's silky texture more fully. This aeration is particularly important for wines with such intensity and structure, as it mimics the natural development that occurs with bottle age.

The exceptional 97-point rating from Wine Orbit and 95 points from Wine Pilot, combined with the producer's multiple winemaker of the year titles, indicate this is a benchmark example of Barossa Shiraz. These accolades reflect not just the wine's immediate appeal but its technical excellence in balancing power with finesse. The Gold Medal from Wine Showcase Magazine and Five Stars from Wine Orbit confirm this vintage represents outstanding value for a museum-quality release.
