Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

We taste a lot of wines here at the ‘fo. And believe it or not, you can get tired of tasting vino, day in day out. But that means when you find a wine so utterly juicy, so ridiculously quaffable that you’d never tire of it, you’re not going to keep quiet about it. Gapsted have made one of those. Cherry, plum jam, hints of blueberries, a zippy acidity and soft, round mouthfeel is all you need for a delicious drinking, night in night out. Plus, it won’t cost an arm and a leg, either. Not even close. Can’t say fairer than that!

Frequently Asked Questions

King Valley's cooler climate and higher altitude create a more elegant expression of Tempranillo compared to its Spanish origins. The region's diurnal temperature variation helps retain the zippy acidity mentioned in this wine, while still developing the characteristic plum and cherry flavours. This Australian interpretation tends to be more approachable in youth, with softer tannins and brighter fruit expression than traditional Rioja styles.

Serve this wine slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C, to enhance its fresh acidity and fruit character. The medium body and soft mouthfeel make it versatile for both casual sipping and food pairing. Consider decanting for 30 minutes if you want to open up the plum jam and berry notes, though it's designed to be immediately enjoyable straight from the bottle.

The wine's cherry and plum jam character, combined with hints of allspice and black olive, makes it excellent with Mediterranean cuisine, grilled lamb, or Spanish tapas. The zippy acidity cuts through rich dishes like chorizo or aged cheeses, while the soft tannins won't overpower lighter fare like roasted vegetables or herb-crusted chicken. The versatile flavour profile also complements tomato-based pasta dishes beautifully.

This 2021 Tempranillo is crafted for immediate enjoyment, designed as a 'night in night out' drinking wine. While it could develop additional complexity over 2-3 years, the current expression showcases the juicy, quaffable style that Gapsted intended. The soft tannins and bright acidity suggest it's at its peak drinking window now, perfect for those who prefer fruit-forward wines over heavily aged expressions.

Limited release wines often command premium prices, but this Tempranillo delivers restaurant-quality drinking at an accessible price point. The combination of King Valley's reputation for quality, Gapsted's winemaking expertise, and Tempranillo's naturally food-friendly character creates exceptional value. You're getting varietal authenticity, regional expression, and immediate drinking pleasure without the premium associated with more established wine regions or longer-aged releases.
