Why do we love this wine?

Direct from Victoria’s King Valley, this red field blend comes to the party dressed in a cool 1 litre bottle and its personality doesn’t require too much thought; it’s light, bright and juicy with raspberry, black cherry and a hint of spice. An easy-drinking crowd pleaser built for entertaining, and with this bigger bottle, no one needs to miss out!

Frequently Asked Questions

The King Valley's cool climate and diverse elevation creates perfect conditions for blending different varietals that ripen at varying times. This allows Gapsted to craft balanced red blends like the ALTA, where each component contributes distinct characteristics - the bright acidity from cooler sites balances the richer fruit flavours from warmer pockets. The region's Italian heritage also brings expertise in field blending techniques that enhance complexity.

The 1L format reflects the wine's party-friendly philosophy and provides excellent value for casual entertaining. Larger bottles also offer slight ageing advantages as the wine-to-air ratio is more favourable, though this easy-drinking style is designed for immediate enjoyment. The extra 250ml means you can serve an additional glass or two, making it perfect for sharing without needing multiple bottles.

Serve slightly chilled at 14-16°C to enhance its bright, juicy character and prevent the fruit flavours from becoming too heavy. The wine's approachable style pairs beautifully with barbecued meats, pizza, or charcuterie boards. Its medium body and balanced acidity make it versatile enough for both casual sipping and food pairing, while the hint of spice adds complexity to complement grilled vegetables or mild cheeses.

A field blend means different grape varieties are grown together in the same vineyard and harvested simultaneously, rather than being blended after separate fermentation. This traditional technique creates more integrated flavours as the varieties influence each other during ripening and fermentation. The result is the seamless cherry and redcurrant profile you taste, with natural harmony that's harder to achieve through post-fermentation blending.

This wine is crafted for immediate enjoyment and is drinking beautifully now, showcasing its vibrant raspberry and black cherry characteristics at their peak. While the 2019 vintage has developed some lovely complexity over the past few years, the style prioritises fresh fruit expression over long-term cellaring potential. The bright, juicy profile will gradually soften but is best enjoyed within the next 1-2 years to capture its intended vivacious character.
