This premium Barossa shiraz comes from one of those addresses that makes Barossa fans sit up straight and take notice. Roennfeldt Road in Marananga is the real deal - an old, respected strip of dirt that’s humbly responsible for some of the greatest wines Australia has ever offered. And this bottle wears that pedigree proudly.

Why do we love this wine?

Only 800 bottles were made, and you can feel the intent straight away. When you first pour this beauty it’s deep and inky, right what we're looking for, then the aromatics start rolling in - black cherry, blackcurrant, mocha, dark chocolate, clove and a savoury edge. There’s oak in the mix, sure, but it’s handled with a steady hand and never steals the spotlight. On the palate, it’s all drive and depth. Powerful fruit, superb balance, and soft, almost velvety tannins that keep everything flowing. The finish stretches out beautifully, making this yet another classic Barossa bruiser that you'll be tasting long after the wine's washed down that scotch fillet.

Roennfeldt Road in the Marananga sub-region of the Barossa is a bit legndary and it is home to the vineyard providing the grapes for this absolute star Barossa Shiraz. From a wonderful vintage, the wine is matured in French oak, half of it new, for 20 months. 800 bottles. Inky maroon hue, the nose swirls about a weave of aromas, including chocolate, molten dark rich chocolate, black cherries, mocha, soy, cloves and blackcurrants. Deft oak handling here, as it is across the range. A wine of drive, balance, and intensity and great length. There are soft, almost slurry-like tannins. This is still so young, but what a promising future ahead of it. Enjoy over the next 10 to 15 years.

Frequently Asked Questions

With only 800 bottles produced, this represents Eisenstone's most exclusive single-vineyard expression from their prized Marananga site. The SR804 designation indicates this comes from a specific block of old vines that consistently produces fruit of exceptional quality. Limited production allows for meticulous attention to detail throughout the winemaking process, from hand-selecting the finest bunches to extended barrel ageing that develops the wine's remarkable complexity and depth.

Marananga sits in the heart of the Barossa Valley, where ancient soils and a warm continental climate create ideal conditions for producing powerful, concentrated Shiraz. The sub-region's red clay over limestone bedrock provides excellent drainage while retaining enough moisture for the vines during hot summers. This terroir contributes to the wine's signature inky colour and intense fruit concentration, while the old vines' deep root systems access mineral-rich layers that add complexity and that distinctive savoury edge.

This wine's powerful fruit and velvety tannins make it perfect for rich, flavourful dishes that can match its intensity. The chocolate and mocha notes complement char-grilled steaks, lamb shanks, or game meats beautifully. The wine's savoury complexity also pairs excellently with aged cheeses, mushroom-based dishes, or slow-cooked stews where the spice elements can interact with herbs like rosemary and thyme.

With its exceptional ratings averaging 95+ points and old-vine fruit concentration, this Shiraz has excellent cellaring potential of 15-20 years. The wine's balanced oak integration and soft tannin structure suggest it's already drinking beautifully now, but will continue developing greater complexity and tertiary flavours over the next decade. Store in a cool, dark place at consistent temperature, and expect the wine to evolve from its current fruit-driven profile to more earthy, leather, and tobacco notes with age.

Receiving 96 points from Ken Gargett and dual 95-point scores from Huon Hooke and Jeni Port represents exceptional recognition from Australia's most respected wine critics. These scores place this Shiraz in the top tier of Australian wines, indicating outstanding quality across all aspects - aroma, palate, balance, and finish. The inclusion in The Real Review's Top 100 Australian Wineries further validates Eisenstone's position among the country's elite producers, making this wine both a pleasure to drink and a sound investment.
