Why do we love this wine?

Just as you'd expect from Margaret River, a soft, smooth, medium-full bodied wine with super concentrated flavours of blackberry, currants and bay-leaf. There's a subtly dry tannin and some toasty influences from the oak that are all singing in perfect harmony after five or so years in bottle. It's all about balance and allowing the pristine fruit to express itself with help from the structure. This is a wine that should be drank now. It's done it's aging, everything is in its right place, there's no need to wait any longer whatsoever. Tuck in!

Frequently Asked Questions

After five years in bottle, this Margaret River Cabernet has reached its optimal drinking window where all elements have harmonised beautifully. The tannins have softened, the oak has integrated seamlessly, and the concentrated blackberry and currant flavours are expressing themselves at their peak. Unlike some Cabernets that benefit from extended cellaring, this wine has completed its maturation process and waiting longer won't improve it further.

Margaret River's maritime climate creates perfect conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, producing wines with the soft, smooth character evident in this Evans & Tate bottling. The region's consistent temperatures and ocean influence allow for slow, even ripening that develops concentrated flavours while maintaining natural acidity. This results in the balanced, medium-full bodied style that Margaret River Cabernets are renowned for, avoiding the excessive power that can occur in hotter regions.

The toasty oak influences in this Cabernet work as a supporting act rather than dominating the show, which is the hallmark of skilled winemaking. The oak adds subtle complexity and structure while allowing the pristine blackberry and currant fruit to remain the star. This balance is crucial in Cabernet Sauvignon, where heavy-handed oak can mask the varietal's natural elegance and the terroir expression that makes Margaret River wines so distinctive.

The medium-full body and savoury characteristics make this Cabernet perfect for red meat dishes, particularly grilled lamb with herbs that echo the wine's bay-leaf notes. The textured tannins and coffee undertones also complement rich, slow-cooked beef dishes and aged hard cheeses. The wine's balanced structure means it won't overpower lighter preparations while still having enough presence to stand up to robust flavours.

Being named a Halliday Top 100 Producer and earning Five Red Star status places Evans & Tate among Australia's elite wineries, indicating consistent excellence across their range. This recognition reflects not just this single wine's quality, but the producer's commitment to expressing Margaret River's terroir authentically. The 90-point rating suggests this Broadway Cabernet represents exceptional value, delivering premium wine quality that punches well above its weight class.
